The context of this verse is an up-and-coming battle with Ammon and Moab. It's interesting that verse 22 deals with the ambushes that the LORD set against this enemy. God set these ambushes as the people began to sing praises to the LORD.

22 As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.

I interpret this from the foxhole of a soldier: The statement in verse 20, "you shall be established," has a certain meaning which is connected to the tactics of setting ambushes.

When you "establish yourself" to defeat the enemy by ambush you must position yourself along a common pathway which is used by the enemy. You must find solid cover and concealment and you must lay in wait silently for your enemy to pass. When they are passing by, you attack them by surprise and kill as many as you can before they get the wits about themselves to defend.

But this is not what the Bible says happens here. Notice that the word says, "The LORD will establish you..." And then, "The LORD set the ambushes" after Jehoshaphat appointed men to......ambush?... NO, he appointed men to praise the LORD AND then the LORD established Judah in a position of victory by ambush.

It looks to me like one enemy of Judah was moved by the LORD to ambush her other enemy (likely a fratricide divinely orchestrated), thus they both were destroyed by the "LORD's ambush" on behalf of the "appointed men's" praise.

23 The men of Ammon and Moab rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another.
