Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines

Notice – The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.

We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Could the answer to that question require a little bit more? http://deeperwaters.ddns.net/?p=8478

Wonderful post. I think "tldr" summarizes much of what's wrong with my generation.

Hey, Nick! Good essay! There was a mistake, though, may I report it? "Ascent" when you clearly meant "assent."

        May you continue to ascend!

It’s one reason in debates I’ve been asking “When was the last time you read a work of scholarship that disagreed with you.” If someone doesn’t answer the question, I find it incredibly revealing.

It's probably not as revealing unless it's asked in tandem with "when was the last time you read a work of scholarship".
          I'm not here anymore.

A good friend of mine runs an apologetics ministry focused on this very idea, called "No Pat Answers," which tries to help people eliminate "trite, glib, shot from the hip, not very well thought out" responses from their repertoire when asked the tough questions.

I'm reading through it now. This is the type of apologetics website I'd like to see more of. This kind of stuff cannot be accurately distilled into little soundbites.

That's our problem. Our culture relies on sound bites for arguments and thinks Google and Wikipedia are sufficient. This is also the case when college graduates who claim to be tolerant and open-minded refuse to have a speaker come who disagrees with what they believe.

College is about learning new things. It's not about cementing what you already believe. You should be there because you don't know everything, not because you think you do.

What kind of ridiculous ministry thinks that you can't be an apologist if your name is Pat? I've never seen such a silly, absurd, ludicrous --

                  What's that?

                  Oh. Never mind.

Yeah, it's always annoying when someone expects a Bumper Sticker answer to a complicated topic.

I'm not against being succinct, but there's times where you just have to bite the bullet and do the necessary legwork (sometimes even spending a chunk of change on a book or two).

I've encountered this myself. I got complaints on my "book length responses" that were often responding to multiple topics. tl:dr was a very common response.

Anybody who would ever type tl;dr does not deserve an answer.

It's not always an answer for their benefit.
