This year has been a very very and rough year for me and I just never got around to doing my taxes by April 15, 2005 and an accountant wanted $400 to do them, yeah right, okay. So I filed for an automatic extension until 8/15/05 figuring things would calm down. Yeah right, okay. So here I am 8/14/05 doing my taxes.
One thing I will say is that the IRS website was actually very helpful to me. I will not be buying on of those $30 tax programs again. The IRS has fillable PDF forms, you can e-file directly there, and the instructions are right there in PDF.
Well at least I hope I did it right, I guess we will find out. It isn't like I owed any money, I was just way too busy.
Anyone else like me? Anyone else have the same surprisingly good experience with the IRS website?

Umm, I was just going to say, you are impressive! Doing your taxes 8 months early... but you're doing them 4 months late. :hrm:
I did my taxes in March online. The IRS website rocks. My state's tax site wasn't nearly as nice.

My only hitch was that my printer filled in my answers way too light. I think the ink catridge is back, I will print them out elsewhere and mail them in tomorrow certified mail.

I take it this is your first year of doing your taxes online?
I you've done them online before, you shouldn't need to mail anything. You just need some relevant info from your tax return last year.

No I have done them online before, but I usually prefer to have them sent certified mail.

I didn't do any taxes this year, I didn't have any income, except from loans and savings and donations.
Should I file now just to avoid violating the law badly?
I didn't do any taxes when I was in Mexico, obviously.

There was a sheet on that on the IRS site that said when you can not file, and when you must file. I would check it out. I think it may have been in this

snap.
Apparently, they count income from abroad that is not subject to US taxes as part of the gross income that determines whether you need to pay taxes.

Anybody get foreign income over $80,000...? I heard that was the cap a few years ago: $80,000 and below, foreign earned income, U.S. tax-free, baby...!

The government loves people like you: not only do you wait months before claiming your tax return (thus earning them even more free interest), you also needlessly give them money via the US postal system.
(just messin with ya )

the interest was worth my time and stress over it - I still haven't got my refund though :glare:
