When I lived in Bangkok, I remember playing cards with a very old Thai man of Chinese descent. He told me stories about the Japansese occupation of Thailand in WWII and other parts of the war. I didn't know enough Thai or Chinese to really grasp what he saying, but he acted it out in pantomine, with war sound-effects, etc.

It's one of my most interesting memories; it hadn't come to mind in a while, and the pamphlet brought it back. It was one of those events that made me realize how much historical treasure is stored in the minds of ordinary people, and how much of it we lose when they pass.
