I'd be curious to hear from former atheists, or at least non-believers in Christianity who converted.

What were you before you became an Atheist, Evangelical or more liberal?

What caused you first to convert to atheism?

What caused you to come back (or to first join) Christianity? (specifically, was it an apologetic conversion, i.e. you were converted by the reasoning and truth of Christianity, or was it an emotional conversion; and who converted you and how?)

How would you now classify yourself as a Christian: Evangelical, or Liberal?

I realize that everyone probably starts off as an Atheist. We don't believe in anything when we are first born, but I'm not just interested in conversion stories of those who were raised Christians and always have been, but those who fell away from the flock and later came back. People who were raised atheist and converted though I would like to hear from as well.

Feel free to add other comments if you like.

TIA

I am not an atheist or a Christian, but gorwing up in a western Christian culture, and raised Christian, I have gone through varius conversions, and witnessed my friends and associates in life going through their changes. I found it quit common for youth and young adults to go through rebelious wanderings in atheism and other religions, but than return to the fold of one form or another of Christianity later in life. Their backgrounds vary form parents and peers of 'social Christians', liberal denominations to evangelicals, but all were raised in an environment saturated with Christian culture and beliefs. This is comparitively true of believers in other religions and cultures, and a factor of human nature. We are for the most part a product of our heritage, and 95%+ Jews beget Jews, Christians beget Christians, Moslems beget Moslems, and so on and on.

I dunno if you're still around or not. If you are a Christian, I'd suggest having this moved to Christianity 201 (you can make a request to do so and be allowed to participate even if you aren't a Christian, just pm a mod). This is a sensitive topic to some and I personally wouldn't care to answer this question in this particular forum, simply because it will get muddled by non-Christians dragging off topic and because this tends to be a somewhat more combative forum. If you want a debate, stay here. If answers, I'd suggest a move.
