Know of any? The NO thing reminds me of what happened to Port Royal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Royal), Jamaica in 1692.

Port Royal was the center of shipping and commerce in Jamaica until an earthquake on June 7, 1692 largely destroyed it, causing two thirds of the city to sink into the Caribbean Sea.

I'm interested to hear other interesting stories.

Krakatoa (sp?) volcanic eruption

Meteor hitting Siberia in around 1907(might be wrong year, but it's around that time).

Bonus one from my state: A tornado hit southern Oklahoma City in May 99 that had winds of 318mph. So far it's the highest wind speed ever record on the surface of the earth.

I had an English professor that argued for that eruption causing the plagues of Egypt.

On a smaller scale, when Agnes came through central pa in 1972 (I think) it wiped out a lot of towns along the susquehanna. combined with the end of coal, it basically killed off some fairly large towns, that are just now starting to come around (if at all)

Nah traditional Biblical and even some nontraditional bible dating puts the Exodus at about 1450 BCE . That date is about the time of the Expulsion of the Hyksos BTW. So Thera is about 150 years too early for that. It did not help The Minoans very much however as their culture collapsed not all that long after.

Oh and Just a note the dates here are approximates and not to be all that seriously taken.
