Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining “Christian” or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

  • The Film - 90 Minutes in Heaven

    Anybody know anything about this?

    90 Minutes.jpg

    From the Promo Email....

After working on more than 20 films in the last 11 years, including Fireproof, Courageous, and The Passion of the Christ, my team is honored to help to engage churches with the new film based on Don Piper’s best-selling book, 90 Minutes in Heaven, which just wrapped up production last week (see short video at movie website, 90minutesinheaventhemovie.com) and is set to release in thousands of theaters in October 2015.

We are planning more than 100 special Pastors-only showings of the movie this summer and if we have enough interest, we can bring it to your area. Simply visit www.GroupMovieTickets.com to nominate your city.

In spite of the uncertainty in some churches as to how to discuss the many personal testimonies about Heaven, there is massive interest from the general public, especially among those who don’t attend church regularly, as to “what happens when we die?” Because the movie stars well-known actors Hayden Christensen (Star Wars II & III) and Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns), many people not accustomed to seeing a faith-based film will be much more likely to see it while in theaters.
For this reason, we are encouraging pastors to consider the month of October 2015, “The Hope of Heaven” month and teach about the reality of our eternal hope of Home.

Really??? Most of the book is him whining about his hospital recovery. Put him in a medical coma already!
If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

Seriously, the book is terrible. His so called visit to heaven is just a few pages of being outside of heaven and not really going in, which would presumably mean he couldn't come back. He then spends the rest of the book moaning about the procedure they used to fix his leg since part of the bone was gone. Instead of amputating it, the doctors used something that slowly stretched his leg as it was healing. I get that would be painful, so why not put the guy in a coma for it? Not to mention that all of his internal injuries were miraculously healed, but not his leg injury???

Thanks, for that thoughtful and unsparkolike comment.

Putting, a comma after the first word in a sentence even when it isn't needed is a bit weird.

That's in the same category as... "Hey, Bubba, hold my beer and watch THIS!"
