Each of those things is true for me except for five and ten. I am not "addicted" to the Internet, the Internet is a giant part of my life. It is where I get 90% of my human interaction.

Each of those things is true for me except for five and ten. I am not "addicted" to the Internet, the Internet is a giant part of my life. It is where I get 90% of my human interaction.
I get most of my human interaction via the internet too. I like interacting with people on the internet because of the lack of emotionalism (in text chat anyway) because one can find people who are actually interested in a subject, and because of the level of depth one can discuss a subject. I have to admit, going to a Church and making an effort to "fellowship" with people I don't know is so awkward for me it's not even funny.
But I use my computer in many other ways too. I've saved hundreds of dollars through online shopping versus local retail stores. I've purchased many books which are probably not even available at local retail stores.
I also use my computer for learning purposes. With the exception of required schooling, why should a person settle for local teachers (preachers), when one can learn from the best of the best? Thanks to the internet, I can learn from the best, through online articles, through audio lectures, and books which are not available locally.
I use my computer for all of my audio needs and wants. By using MP3 and other compressed audio formats, I'm able to listen to CD after CD without swapping discs...and with a portable MP3 player, I'm able to carry my CD collection anywhere I go.
Anyway, that's just a brief analysis of a few things I do with my PC.

I am recovering from a severe, life-long battle with social anxiety disorder and an avoidant personality. When I discovered the Internet I made loads of friends and it boosted my confidence through the roof. By the time I finished my vocational training last June, I had made at least half a dozen friends.
So I am one of the rare people who had their Internet addiction increase their social life.

:hehe:
Like Hamster, I deal with social anxiety. It's very difficult on me to meet with strangers--heck, sometimes it's difficult to meet with a group of friends. I feel overwhelmed.
Here on the computer, it's not so bad--because I can always retreat from the computer without feeling like I'm being antisocial.

Sorry to hear that...I can relate...at least to an extent. Anxiety is one of the problems I've faced in trying to date the other sex. Anxiety will have me dreaming of scenarios and thinking waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to far ahead. I've experienced enough let down, that I'm not as anxious as I used to be. Anymore, I expect to be let down, if I'm not, then I can appreciate not being let down more.
Here on the computer, it's not so bad--because I can always retreat from the computer without feeling like I'm being antisocial.
When I retreat from the computer, it's usually because I absolutely must do something, and it's sometimes quite difficult to detach myself.

Like others have said, I get most of my social interaction via the Internet. I don't like talking to most people IRL because it's so awkward for me. It's much easier online.
But I do spend time online when I should be doing other things. I probably need to take a break from the Internet for a while so I can actually get stuff done.
