View Full Version : Does anyone take B12 or Folic Acid supplements?

For a long time now I've wondered whether I might be deficient in these. I'm very healthy otherwise and I exercise a lot, but I'm always (well, really often, anyway... seems like always!) tired (and I'm pretty sure it's not due to sleep issues). Of course I know that it would be proper to see a doctor if I'm actually that concerned about it, but for now I'm just wondering if anyone else out there started taking B12 or Folic Acid for fatigue? If so, did it work? Or what?

I take a multivitamin that contains folic acid, but likely wouldn't take it on it's own, unless my doc told me I needed to.

I do take a B-complex, though, under instructions from my doctor. DO NOT take any B vitamins by themselves. It is important to take them in a complex form. I think it is just because of my age that he told me to take them.......I never bothered before. Whether it has helped me in any way or not, I don't know.

If you do take a supplement, Tuck, find one with the lowest amount of vitamins that you can. The body gets rid of excess vitamin B's, and if your urine is darker yellow than normal, and has a stronger odour (yes, I know it is icky to talk about.......), then you are getting enough of the vitamins and your body is getting rid of the rest.

If you don't notice a change in your urine, go to the next strongest formula. Because that means that your body is absorbing all the vitamin, and you might need a stronger dose.

I manage to get by on the lowest dosage, and I only take one a day.

My daughter had to take a high B complex vitamin when she was very ill several years ago, because she developed what they call "anemia of chronic illness", which was not an iron-poor anemia, but a lessening of her immune system from being sick for so long. The B's seemed to help her fatigue and seemed to help her general sense of well-being increase, but by then she was starting to get better too, so who knows?

You really should see a doctor though......

I don't think trying a good B complex will hurt you. It's worth a go.
