The son of man has no place to lay his head.

Yup.

"Jesus said to him: The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head."

Course, He could hang out at Mary/Martha/Lazarus' place from time to time.

Jesus was homeless!

By choice...

 That's what I think too.

It even looks like judging by Mark 15, that Jesus was living off the charity of a group of Galilean women:

40Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. 41In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.

I've also seen it suggested that, in the early period of his ministry at least, he lived in Capernaum in Simon-Peter's house...

That's a possibility, given

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.

This reminds me of an article a few months back in Christianity Today (http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2005/009/16.38.html), about new monasticism, and a young man trying to set up a ministry in a urban getto and was being sued and entered court wearing a T-shirt that said "Jesus was Homless" it so impressed the Judge that the Judge asked for a T-shirt like that after the trial.

Thanks for that link!

His name is Shane Claiborn of "The Simple Way." Would you believe he was just up at our university last week speaking about his experiences with Mother Theresa, Christian Peacemaker Teams in Baghdad, and among the poor in Philly?

Yep. He was awesome. Now there's a guy who's got the radical discipleship Jesus expects of us down!

I wish I had the faith and oppertunity to do the work he does and to make such an impact in the truely needy and those who the works of Jesus would be real to. But all I can do is pray for him.

It kind of makes sense that Jesus would be homeless - since he traveled around all the time teaching and performing miracles, and didn't have a family of his own.

Of course, he could always go back to his parents' house to crash if he missed having a good home-cooked meal.

Like somebody once said (I forget who):

"Home is the one place that when you have to go there, they have to take you in."

Not so homeless: "My kingdom is not of this world [John 18:36]." He just had some work to do before He went back home. "I will be with you only a little longer [John 13:33]." "In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One [Matthew 26:64]."

I ponder Jesus' life a lot. I wonder just what he was like as a human being... what he looked like, what his demeanor was, how he dressed, if he smiled a lot, did he tell jokes?

My speculation is that he was probably an extremely affable and likeable guy overall (unless you were a self-righteous, conceited person like the Pharisees), with a heart for the poor and the hurting bigger than I could ever comprehend.

Indeed - I tire of the conception of Jesus as one who spoke with a pontificating voice, who walked about with perfectly-groomed, long blonde hair and clean, well-tailored robes that had a supernatural glow about them.

What was His favorite fruit?

What made him laugh?

What was His favorite game, and did He often beat His friends when He played it?

What habitual remark from His mother invariably made Him wince?
You have got to start taking better care of your feet when you travel, dear. Didn't I teach you about hygene?

Who was His favorite politician, and why? His least favorite?

Did he have any strange foibles?

The higher we put Jesus on a pedestal like some kind of marble statue, the less human, and thus the less relevant to us, he becomes.

Absolutely. Well said, Duder.

One thing that I have always wondered is what behaviours or actions of humans did Jesus find the most amusing. The gospels tell us clearly what behaviours angered him (hypocricy, pride, ...), but what behaviours would cause him to think in his divine knowledge "you know, there is a much easier/better way of doing that"?

I wonder how skilled of a carpenter/craftsman he was. Did he work alongside his human father for years until he suddenly discerned His true vocation?

The fact that the gospels leave so much of his life unrecorded is tantalizing to me. I wonder just what kind of life he lived before being baptized by John in the Jordan.

A sinless life.

A sinless life.

Yeah! How cool is that?
