Have you ever been confronted with drugs or people who fix(ed)?

I've luckily never had, but I've got a book tip for all those who are interested and who want to learn more about drugs and its users; Christiane F. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wir_Kinder_vom_Bahnhof_Zoo)

Hey quaist - well met

Don't know if I know what "fixed" is but I've had some personal experiences with drugs of various sorts - so the confrontation was more or less with my own "demons" in regards to this. If I can offer any insights my recollections and reflections are at your disposal.

Take care

What do you mean by 'drugs'?

@Tuck: Well, we can expand the discussion to other drugs than just only physical ones, if you want. Usually if I use the word "drug" I mean substances like LSD, cocaine, heroin and Speed.

@mentored: If you don't mind, please, tell us more about your experiences.

I'm glad you asked. I was wondering if I should start worrying about needing a daily Topamax "fix"?

(Kidding quaist, I knew what you meant.) :teeth:

By the time I was 17 (I started abusing drugs at 12), I had experimented and/or regularly used just about every popular drug there is (barring crack and heroin). If Christ hadn't rescued me, I'd most surely be dead by now.

My brother used crank for several years. He lost a lot of weight, and his eyes had a "sunk in" look to them. His teeth rotted and broke when he ate, which was not often.
He began to stay up all night and take on "crank projects" where he would fiddle with stuff around the house (my stuff), taking things apart, jury-rigging them, making a mess of things.

He is off drugs now. He has gained weight and actually sleeps.

I had my own period of crank use, but luckily it didn't last long. Staying awake for 3 or 4 days at a time and coughing up blood clots wasn't really that fun, even by my (once) depraved standards.

I had the misfortune of living next door to a crank addict who used to offer me it all the time. His favorite way of doing it was spiking his coffee. "Rocket Fuel!", he called it (he was a dumb trucker by the way ;) ).

'zizanion' from the parable called 'the Weeds among the Wheat', Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43, seems to be the darnel or dolik.

The seeds are poisonous:

" darnel seeds have in them a narcotic drug that causes slumber. (In them, or with them: Some say that it is the fungus which follows the seed that is poisonous, and not the seed itself .."

More: it seems to be deliberately chastened in translations, to begin with Luther. He made innocent 'Unkraut' of it, because in the Middle Ages it was still widely spread and used (someone told me).

Err.....Somehow I feel that I killed the thread.

I've been clean for over 10 years (just in case anyone wanted to know). I wasn't trying to glorify anything.

Just say "No".

In factories here that pay by piece rate, it is common for people to use drugs. The most common ones are usually the OTC speed-type drugs, but crank is everywhere in factories.
My husband has had a cocaine addiction (is clean now) and has never used crank before, but gets offered it every day at work. People smoke "foilies" all day long in order to be faster and make more money. What they are not realizing is that they are actually losing money by buying and taking the drugs. And most people he works with have black, broken teeth, too. Bleh. It's sad.

I have had my fair share of drugs in the past and I still continue to use drugs, however in moderation now. Sometimes I smoke marijuana and watch television. Sometimes i take extasy pills and smoke marijuana to look at hallucinations. Sometimes i smoke crystal meph and look at the sky. All in moderation of course, I dont want to abuse it.

In my lifetime I have only ever smoked marijuana and gotten drunk.. and I've only been drunk once but I was reallly drunk. But The weed I've done. And that's not even bad.
But my one friend concerns me. She does weed about 3 times a day and has recently been doing E on a weekly basis, with her highs lasting a couple days, usually 'till she pukes it up. She gets mad when peopl say she has a problem, and she does, so I usually just hint at it and say something like " Yah.. sure you do it all the time but you could stop." I doubt myself saying it.

I was not aware that those 3 substances produce hallucinations.

The weed isn't so much but E I am concerned when people use. Doesn't it, like, eat yer brain up and stuff??
I am glad it wasn't available to me when I was young. It seems like a very dangerous drug that would really appeal to a lonely young person.

Step One:

"druggies" are people. you are not better - or holier - than they are in any way, shape, or form. (everyone has their addiction - be it chocolate, book reading, marijuana, etc.) they may or may not be addicted to drugs. they may have reasons other than addiction for taking "drugs", and they may not want to discuss those issues with you. if they don't want to talk to you about their problems, its probably best for you to butt out until they do.

Step Two: Just be a friend. Don't treat them differently than you would any "clean" person.

hey, read this:

http://www.oller.net/qetoret.htm

The Spiritual Significance of the Qetoret

The Inner Meaning of the Incense

by Rabbi Avraham Sutton

The following essay is highly experimental. It is the tip of an iceberg, an attempt to make available to the English reader ideas that he may or may not be familiar with from Jewish sources he has little or no awareness of or access to. Nevertheless, since the subjects dealt with herein are of interest to more and more people, it was decided to make the attempt. With the prayer, therefore, that it should find its mark in the hearts of true seekers everywhere, we send this out to the world from JERUSALEM.

I'm not so sure about that, generally.
I think if I were to intervene in a friend's life, it would moreso be for the danger of the substance they are abusing, not because they have an addiction to something (I've got my own one o' those- whaddaya think I am doing HERE?)

E and/or crank abuse IMHO would warrant some type of something on my part as a friend. 'specially crank. That is dangerous and people physically deteriorate rapidly from it. I couldn't be a friend if I didn't show concern for a friend of mine getting into drugs like that. If I've done all I can do for a person and they still make their choice to do that, there isn't much I can do after that, though.
People don't change unless they want to, but friendship involves being concerned for your friends and giving them a warning when they know the bridge up the road is out.

You can "just be a friend", but sometimes addicts have to be treated differently than clean people, lest you be sucked down the tubes righty along with them. One person's addiction affects everybody around them, and they do take everybody down with them if they can.
