Q. God completely forgives sin at salvation. Why do the results of that sin affect innocent people, such as the partner of someone with aids?

Hiya Mal. Good question.
I would say that sins are forgiven but that does not alter the course of time. After all, supposing I was drunk one night (Which I don't drink anyhow) and ended up killing someone with my car. I could repent all I wanted to and chances are, they're not gonna rise from the dead.
The reason our sins effect other people and this shocks us is that we are not islands. We do not live to ourselves alone. Every action we do effects other people in some way. We are a community people. The Trinity shows us that God is relational in his innermost being and so are we as we are in his image.
Sin is something serious. It effects the whole of creation in that it alienates man from God, from his neighbor, from his environment, and from himself. However, if the creation is a symphony, the resurrection is the climatic crescendo that has us moving back to unification. Sin is the bad note and the resurrection is the note that brings the piece to perfection.
Hope this helps!
