Democrats Losing Race For Funds Under Dean (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/11/AR2005111101833_pf.html)

The Democratic National Committee under Howard Dean is losing the fundraising race against Republicans by nearly 2 to 1, a slow start that is stirring concern among strategists who worry that a cash shortage could hinder the party's competitiveness in next year's midterm elections.

The former Vermont governor and presidential candidate took the chairmanship of the national party eight months ago, riding the enthusiasm of grass-roots activists who relished his firebrand rhetorical style. But he faced widespread misgivings from establishment Democrats, including elected officials and Washington operatives, who questioned whether Dean was the right fit in a job that traditionally has centered on fundraising and the courting of major donors.

Now, the latest financial numbers are prompting new doubts. From January through September, the Republican National Committee raised $81.5 million, with $34 million remaining in the bank. The Democratic National Committee, by contrast, showed $42 million raised and $6.8 million in the bank.

Howard Dean is all bloviating tough guy when he has a bunch of Kool aid drinkers as an exclusive audience. But Howard the coward refused to appear on Meet the Press with Republican counterpart Ken Mehlman:

The DRUDGE REPORT has learned from exclusive sources that Democrat Party Chair Howard Dean turned down Republican Party Chair Ken Mehlman’s last minute offer to appear together on NBC’s MEET THE PRESS this morning.

Moments before taping was to begin with host Tim Russert, Mehlman asked Dean outside the NBC studio’s green room: “There’s still time for us to go on together Governor.” Dean declined with a shrug of his shoulders and an uncomfortable cackle and then proceeded to walk away into the green room.

DRUDGE has learned MEET THE PRESS producers have been working to get a head to head Dean/Mehlman appearance on the program since Dean was named chair back in February. Dean and his handlers have repeatedly turned down the request. The former Vermont governor only agreed to do this week’s program if they appeared in back-to-back interviews.

The Dems must be losing now because of Dean simply because of this. I mean the whole fact that the House Republicans had to pull their own Budget Cut bill because of a lack of Republican support is a clear indication that the Democrats and Dean are failing. It must also be Dean's fault and inadequacy that made the Republican candidate for Gov. in New Jersey blame Bush for losing.

Darn that Dean, the Republican Party is just cruising right now because of him.

I guess when you're hanging by your fingernails any news is good news...

i dunno. it's like a bar brawl, where each side takes a swig between fisticuffs, so that they both just get more and more sloppy and ineffective.
