If you were to fill a 5 gallon bucket with water what’s the maximum number of gallons can you put in it?
No, this is not a trick question!
If you said 5 gallons you’d be right! (See it wasn’t a trick question.)
If we were to pour in 6 gallons into our 5 gallon bucket 1 gallon would spill out. Makes sense right?
Right!
Your life is like that 5 gallon bucket. Each and every day we are bombarded with “minor things” and “minor circumstances” that fill our lives with despair, discouragement, and doubts. Thousands of years ago the prophet Isaiah offered a “cure” for our plight. He did not speak in terms of buckets and gallons but the process is same.
Listen! I hear the voice of someone shouting, “Make a road for the Lord through the wilderness; make him a straight, smooth road through the desert. Fill the valleys; level the hills; straighten out the crooked paths and smooth off the rough spots in the road.”
{Isaiah 40:3 - 40:4 LVB}
Some think they must first empty their lives before filling it the Spirit of God. “Fill the valleys,” Isaiah wrote because he knew the Spirit of God would displace any power created by mankind.
When you begin to fill your life with Jesus Christ he will fill your life with joy rather than despair and discouragement, he will fill your life with hope rather than the doubt, he will fill your life with love rather than hate and apathy, he will fill your life with peace rather than conflict. Sometimes Jesus’ Spirit will come into your life as flash flood at other times as cascading mountain stream gathering speed, volume, and power.
“Here’s my five gallon life Jesus fill it to overflowing from the unlimited reservoir of your blessings. Amen”
Have a blest day,
