Cool. Some suggestions:
1. That yellow line on Eidolon's sleeves makes him look like he's wearing a track suit.
2. You should give Eidolon a sentient smart aleck weapon that argues with him once in a while. Kind of like the "team pet". Of course, it's all up to you...

What format do you get them in? The most common ones I get are either .iso files or 4 dozen small zipped packages. If you get the former, download ISO buster and use it to extract the files. If you get the small zipped packages, run the .rar file and extract the stuff from it. And this is off topic so if you have further questions just PM me.

Hey JP, I realised why Eidolon looks odd. The one on this page:
http://www.tektonics.org/toongallery/hearthstone.html
Has the yellow line outlining his gloves (I think). The new one you made has it going down his arm from his shoulder. I like the old one better.

1. That yellow line on Eidolon's sleeves makes him look like he's wearing a track suit.
I did forget how I had him before (re your last message). Well, too late now, but I did have in mind that the stripe is part of a tribute to his heritage. If you look at his chest in later pages, and even at the original drawing, you'll be able to make out the six-sided symbol of the Av'nen and the stripe would come out of it like a ray of light.
2. You should give Eidolon a sentient smart aleck weapon that argues with him once in a while. Kind of like the "team pet". Of course, it's all up to you...
Actually, there will be some places where the equivalent will happen...when he has to confront "modern" ways after having experienced so many cultural shifts. There's an especially funny/dramatic moment planned for this story, when he and Brom first meet in the tale, and also in Shrike Team #2 when he and Brom will defeat the story's bad guy. And in one of the Range Patrol stories, I'd like to work out something where he's remembering how to drive after last doing it about 70 years before....
And in the long term, he'll have a foil of sorts....someone we know already....but that will be after a while.

Yes, Shrike Team #1 (title will be "Fruits of Redemption") is the next big one. Then I'll alternate back to Range Patrol #2, then Shrike Team #2, and so on until there are at least 5 for each. At that point or close by I'll pop in with Claw of Vengeance being added to the rotation for a bit; then -- well, let's just say there will be some radical turns. I won't let this thing grow stale, you can count on THAT.

And here I'm waiting for Molinist to appear...
I figured out a way to get him into the mix just before Claw of Vengeance as well as tie him in to a larger picture I have. In terms of the dynamic, the hard thing is to limit his power so that he's not a complete problem solver, a deus ex machina as it were.
I'll let one bit out about him...there's a good chance that underneath that outfit, he's going to be a Sk'lan....but still a good guy.

Welllllll....I can't help it if I want to get some ideas down, can I?
Well, actually this is not part of a panel story....it's a "standalone" portrait of the sort you find on the Hearthstone intro pages. I got a whole mess of these I've been holding on to because I didn't want to burden the guy who did my scans...now that I have one of my own I can get rid of that backlog, which has characters from all the different storylines in standalones.
Also means I can start a section on tektoonics for standalones earlier than I thought. :teeth:
See ya'll tomorrow. BTW I'm now on page 37 of the first Shrike Team story and it looks like it may be only 79-82 total pages. So maybe I can get in done in January....!

Both of these are actually named (on the server) as ".JPG", in capital letters, not lowercase. Apparently your server can tell the difference, and takes exception to it.
So, these links will work:

Or you could change the names to lowercase.

I may not worry about links. Tektoon is mostly intended as a display for my creative efforts. I can hardly wait for Dimbo to start picking on it. :lolo:

OK, I'd like some thoughts on this. My reader who works in animation out in Hollywood suggested I might do some Hearthstone material in a more "manga" storytelling format. Meaning, specifically, at the slower more "cinematic" pace that manga follows (per Japanese cultural values, right, Johnny?).
As it is, I follow the usual American fast-paced format.
I'll have to admit manga makes me miss the snooze bar, but I COULD do it production wise. It would take a lot longer to do a story is all.
Any thoughts?

Oh those silly Brits...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/Column/0,5673,1657942,00.html
But so far, so good. The story makes sense. The lion exchanging his life for Edmund's is the sort of thing Arthurian legends are made of. Parfait knights and heroes in prisoner-of-war camps do it all the time. But what's this? After a long, dark night of the soul and women's weeping, the lion is suddenly alive again. Why? How?, my children used to ask. Well, it is hard to say why. It does not make any more sense in CS Lewis's tale than in the gospels. Ah, Aslan explains, it is the "deep magic", where pure sacrifice alone vanquishes death.
Of all the elements of Christianity, the most repugnant is the notion of the Christ who took our sins upon himself and sacrificed his body in agony to save our souls. Did we ask him to? Poor child Edmund, to blame for everything, must bear the full weight of a guilt only Christians know how to inflict, with a twisted knife to the heart. Every one of those thorns, the nuns used to tell my mother, is hammered into Jesus's holy head every day that you don't eat your greens or say your prayers when you are told. So the resurrected Aslan gives Edmund a long, life-changing talking-to high up on the rocks out of our earshot. When the poor boy comes back down with the sacred lion's breath upon him he is transformed unrecognisably into a Stepford brother, well and truly purged.
Over the years, others have had uneasy doubts about the Narnian brand of Christianity. Christ should surely be no lion (let alone with the orotund voice of Liam Neeson). He was the lamb, representing the meek of the earth, weak, poor and refusing to fight. Philip Pullman - he of the marvellously secular trilogy His Dark Materials - has called Narnia "one of the most ugly, poisonous things I have ever read".
Why? Because here in Narnia is the perfect Republican, muscular Christianity for America - that warped, distorted neo-fascist strain that thinks might is proof of right. I once heard the famous preacher Norman Vincent Peel in New York expound a sermon that reassured his wealthy congregation that they were made rich by God because they deserved it. The godly will reap earthly reward because God is on the side of the strong. This appears to be CS Lewis's view, too. In the battle at the end of the film, visually a great epic treat, the child crusaders are crowned kings and queens for no particular reason. Intellectually, the poor do not inherit Lewis's earth.
:lmbo:
Children are supposed to fall in love with the hypnotic Aslan, though he is not a character: he is pure, raw, awesome power. He is an emblem for everything an atheist objects to in religion.
Note: I wonder if Ms. (I'm assuming nobody is stupid enough to marry her) Toynbee and other members of her broad brushed atheist groups would object to giving me all their money and power. I'd settle for North Korea. :teeth:

OK, it's time for the first original tektoonics parody. Who wants to help?
I'm redoing this stupid little ditty called The Parable of the Insane Dog Breeder. Here it is for reference:
There once lived a man who bred dogs. Over the years he worked to produce a breed of strong, intelligent and loyal animals. At last he developed a unique breed which, he liked to think, reflected the best of his own nature. nature. And for awhile all was good. Then the animals began fighting. They fought among themselves and with other breeds. They fought and injured and killed, often for trivial reasons, sometimes for no reason at all. Worst of all in the breeder's eyes, the dogs became disobedient, sometimes not even recognizing him as their master. Because he could not bear their savagery, nor endure their arrogant disobedience, the breeder decided he must destroy them. He planned to kill them all.
Then he had another idea. He loved his dogs so much, in spite of their unremitting savagery, that he decided to put his young son in the dog pen as a model of innocence and virtue, to save the dogs from themselves. Surely, in the presence of such an obvious example, a teacher sent by their master, the dogs would be humbled and would learn to reject their monstrous ways. But in his heart the breeder knew this would not happen. He knew the dogs would kill his son. And they did. The dogs ripped away the young man's clothing and tore him to bloody pieces.
The insane breeder continued to love his dogs, and he told them, "Any of you who will believe this was my son, whom I allowed to be killed for your sakes, I will not punish, but I will bring you to live with me in my house."
Any human being who would do such a thing to his own son would rightly be condemned as insane, immoral and evil. In every human society, a person who abets the murder of an innocent for the sake of the unworthy, and calls it "love", is rightly regarded as insane, immoral and evil. If we would hold this opinion of a humble dog breeder, what then can we say of an omnipotent and omniscient Deity who does the same thing? How much more insane, immoral and evil must a Deity be, to commit a morally equivalent act? This is the plain and obvious moral abomination at the core of Christianity: the Christian God has the morals of an insane dog breeder who feeds his child to monsters. To deny this conclusion we must abandon not only reason, but simple human decency as well.
Yip, yip, yip. OK, here's my version so far:
*******
There once lived a man who bred dogs. Well, not really breed them. What he did was just think of them, and they appeared; and then they bred from there. The dogs were strong, intelligent, and capable of loyalty, but the man gave them enough intelligence so that they could understand his commands and make their own choices. Most of the dogs appreciated this, but a few were ungrateful and blamed the man for their problems.
For example, one day one of them saw that the man had posted a sign near the farm that said DO NOT PASS THIS SIGN. FIELD BEYOND INFESTED WITH FLEAS. Some of the dogs heeded this warning, but others just laughed. "That man probably keeps steaks in that field and is trying to trick us," some said. "I'll bet we can find those steaks and become bigger, stronger dogs." Of course the dogs never found the steaks, but always came back infested with fleas, which they passed on to the other dogs, including their own puppies.
Before long, however, the infestation of fleas became so serious that the man realized that the dogs would have to be quarantined. He planned to put all his dogs in quarantine if needed, but first he had another idea. He loved his dogs so much, in spite of how stupid they could be, that he decided to send his young son in the dog pen with flea spray. The son would ask each dog if it wanted to be sprayed, and if it accepted, he would spray it.
But some of the dogs refused to be sprayed, and in fact, got so angry that they killed the young son.
"Oh, well," said the man, and immediately raised his son from the dead and put him in charge of the whole operation, where the son continued to give the dogs a choice of either being sprayed or being quarantined.
Later as the man was retired in Tierra del Fuego, one of his dogs -- a chihuahua, as it happened -- came to see him.
"You know, that was a very stupid idea to send your son in to where the dogs were to get killed," the dog woofed.
The man sipped at his cool drink. "Why do you say that?"
"Well, there it was, you sent your son as a model of innocence and virtue, to save the dogs from themselves, thinking that surely, in the presence of such an obvious example, master, the dogs would be humbled and would learn to reject their monstrous ways."
"Who told you that?"
The dog cocked it's head. "Uhhhh....that's not why you sent him?"
"No. That's what some of the more liberal dog breeders out there think I did it for. Of course I don't deny that I expected some of the dogs to use my son as a role model, but only the ones who took the spray. The rest were not the ones I sent him to help."
"Uhhhhhhhh....but wait. In your heart you knew they would kill him, right? You knew those dogs would kill your son. And they did. They ripped away his clothing and tore him to bloody pieces."
"Yeah, and?"
The chihuahua was flummoxed. "Well, uh, that's terrible!"
The man sipped again. "Why? My son wanted to do the job; it got rid of fleas forever on the dogs that took the spray, which ended their suffering and allowed them to co-exist with him -- because we can't have those fleas spread to people, now, can we? -- and I raised him from the dead and put him in charge of the operation. He thought it was worth the effort; so did I. It allowed countless billions of dogs to be free of fleas, as well as countless billions more puppies too young to avoid fleas on their own. Why isn't that worth the death of a single person who isn't constrained by death in the first place?"
The chihuahua stuttered and stammered a bit. "Uh, well, I say that any human being who would do such a thing to his own son would rightly be condemned as insane, immoral and evil."
The man laughed. "Well you are just a dumb dog, after all, and a very selfish one at that. I guess you've never heard of the idea of vicarious sacrifice."
"Huh?"
"Look, you dumb little dog -- throughout the history of my operation, the vast majority of dogs who have ever lived have recognized willing and vicarious self-sacrifice as noble and honorable. It's just a tiny lot of you -- who happened to have been bred very recently, as it happens -- who have gotten so self-centered and ignorant that you don't appreciate the nobility of dying for the sake of your loved ones. Tell me, do you have a mate?"
"Uhh....no..."
"If you did, would you love them enough to die for them?"
"Look, the point is, that in every human society, a person who abets the murder of an innocent for the sake of the unworthy, and calls it 'love', is rightly regarded as insane, immoral and evil."
The man looked at the dog closely. "So, you call yourself an unworthy, right?"
The dog's eyes popped like saucers and he said, "Duh."
"And if you're an unworthy, then what the blazes do you know and what makes your understanding of the situation reliable?"
"Duh."
"Let me sum it up for you, little fellow. The bottom line is that your lack of appreciation of the value of noble self-sacrifice is your own problem. You're self-centered and without a care for what others think or do. My son volunteered for his duty out of his own love for you dogs. The least you can do is be appreciative, but obviously you're an ingrate."
The dog turned red with rage and nipped at the man's boot.
"Hmph. See what I mean? So are you going to complain that it's unfair that I put the likes of you in quarantine away from the healthy and obedient dogs? You complain if I do that, and you complain if I give you a way to take yourself out of quarantine that in the end benefits everyone who is willing to do nothing more complicated than give their assent. What the heck kind of dumb dog are you, anyway?"
And with that, the man ground the obnoxious little chihuahua into the ground with his boot where the chihuahua continued to yip, whine and complain for eternity. This is the plain and obvious moral abomination at the core of those who called the breeder insane for what he did: They didn't get their facts straight; they're a bunch of selfish whiners, and to top it all off, they call their own beliefs after the names of "reason" and "simple human decency" as though they were the bellybuttons of the world.

Hearthstone's version of pre flood half human half fallen angel hybrids. Being gafted back is also a reference to the jews, so my guess is that they're preflood jewhilim.

Ah. I thought it was actually a bad thing, since I thought it was a reference to Matthew 7:6,

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
6"(A)Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

Eidolon says something about them being gafted back, though I'm not sure what exactly you're giving away in that pic.
By itself, nothing yet. I'll see if anyone figures anything out when the next clue is presented. You did pretty well with the Nephilim idea...as close as you were to suggest that Sheila is/will be Hearthstone's Virgin Mary. Let's just say you scored 7 out of 10 on both in terms of closeness to what's actually going to happen.
As an aside, any Tekton loyalist who wants the story (or stories) spoiled is welcome to email me and I'll lay out the major plot developments for the series. It's up to you. :thumb:

Johnny's right. This would cost an arm and a leg and I can't afford it. I'd also rather do this free for a few appreciative people than have to water things down to please a lot more people for pay.
As it is, it's not costing much yet in part because I am using the same server Tekton is on.
I cut one page out of Shrike Team #1 that could be moved to #2, leaving 78 pages, and I inked the last of those 78 yesterday. Coloration is on page 49. Maybe I can get this done Jan. 2. I won't load before Jan. 1 because bandwidth has been heavy.
Also started the "stick figure" script for Range Patrol #2, which is titled "Invasion Praxis". This one will be in at least two parts and the first part may reach 95 pages.

Here's a question for everyone. How tall, in our terms, do you think Sheila is? In the Captain Carrot comic, they anthropomorphs were an average of 4 feet tall by our standards. What about on Hearthstone? If we went there, would it be a "world in miniature" to us, do you think? Or same scale? Or is Sheila an Amazon in our world?
I haven't decided this yet, but I'm leaning towards one way in particular...

Hmm. I was wondering about that a couple weeks ago (I thought of drawing sheila on the bike that belongs to that anime girl i posted). I thougt about her perhaps being kinda small, like hobbit-size...
But thinking about it, I would tend towards what Darth said, having Sheila, Annabelle, etc being around 4' - 5' or so, beamer (obviously) really small, and Bimf etc being a bit larger than humans.

At this stage that can include between stories. And 2) is a highly variable stage -- I can sometimes do 2 pages a night, sometimes 4.

I'd like some feedback on the additions to the Peoples of Hearthstone section, where there's now a more detailed discussion of interspecies relationships. Particularly, what sort of social reactions might evolve in such a setting as Hearthstone.
I can envision for example that some of their dramatic works might be stories of interspecies romance that had to end because of social pressure. Sort of like Othello mixed with Romeo and Juliet.

I'd like some feedback on the additions to the Peoples of Hearthstone section, where there's now a more detailed discussion of interspecies relationships. Particularly, what sort of social reactions might evolve in such a setting as Hearthstone.
Maybe some sort of detective agency focused on watching and exposing such relationships? I would imagine that those in the east would like to keep their affairs secret if they don't want to suffer social repercussions. These people would also be more likely to adopt, so they could peform a "bastard child" complex where adopted persons might be considered less honorable than those raised by their natural parents.
I can envision for example that some of their dramatic works might be stories of interspecies romance that had to end because of social pressure. Sort of like Othello mixed with Romeo and Juliet.
Back tomorrow. Let me have some of that quality thought I know is out there. :teeth:
I don't know why, but I just envisioned Bimf as Othello falling in love with a Tilkrig female. :eww:
Kinda like King Kong.
I do have a question though, what pickle did the Sk'lan get into? Are their females wiped out?

These people would also be more likely to adopt, so they could peform a "bastard child" complex where adopted persons might be considered less honorable than those raised by their natural parents.
Interesting points. As I now have it, "mixed" marriages are only in Nullabor, and are very few; so I need to think about how adoption might fit into things only from the standpoint of those who do not have the honor issues. The Nullaborians would tend to welcome such adoptions, I'd say.
More thoughts...
1) Back in the Ask Sheila thread there were some hints that prostitution could be a more rampant problem in such a setting, and that would indeed suggest that it becomes a focus of PI work.
2) Their version of "be fruitful and multiply" may be taken by some of their Bob Jones types as something that absolutely forbids interspecies marriages.
3) On the other hand, the principle of "neither male nor female, neither slave nor free, for all are one in Christ Jesus" would expand here as well to, "there is neither Tilkrig nor Allethene"....and be used as support for the idea that there is no restriction on such relationships from a divine perspective.
(I expect ST #2 will deal in this somewhat with Brom's tendency towards charitable interaction, with no concern for the species issue -- such as, as I've already noted, his voluntary work training the Sanslorian in the arts of war. I already see it becoming something used against him by more "traditional-minded" sorts, and by another enemy, in ST #3 -- by whom?....wait and see.)
I don't know why, but I just envisioned Bimf as Othello falling in love with a Tilkrig female. :eww:
Oh dear. I think I'll lose my lunch too, thanks. :eww:
I do have a question though, what pickle did the Sk'lan get into? Are their females wiped out?
As usual, you have an answer that bears a semblance of correctness. :thumb: Maybe 5 out of 10 on that one. RP #2 will hint at certain "abominations" by the Sk'lan, and there are certain things that will happen in RP #2 that will make you think your answer fits, but that isn't what their problem is. I have two places I could reveal the whole thing -- either RP #3 or ST #5. Which one it is may depend on how good a guesser you or others are. :teeth:
Dude, I would use the word "race" rather than "species" because inter-species is bestiality, man.

Or for Farrell Till to make some issue of it:
"I have to ask why an omniscient, omnipotent, omni-max deity didn't just GIVE Brom Shriker his powers instead of using an inefficient method like eating a bunch of fruit."
Or for Stevie Carr to write a long message about contradictions between Range Patrol #1 and Shrike Team #1:
"Holding shows in Range Patrol #1 that Elapines have long ears, but Char'lett Paracene in the "Etcetera" section clearly has long ears and is said to be a Prycene. It's amazing the lengths Holding will go to to get out of this problem. He'll probably have to remove the entire tektoonics website."

He's named after Richard Allen Glenn (Winace) as a tribute. Winace of course was a big rabbit afficianado and I expect would have enjoyed the idea of himself helping to save a nation of rabbits from destruction. :teeth: He'll appear in about 7-8 pages of RP #2.

Also started scripting ST #2. It's up to about 48 pages now and I keep thinking it'll reach 100, but I thought RP #2 would do that too and I was wrong.
Hmm, with the time I have left I'll scan in a few more pages. G'night.

Well, basically, "Zim", the alien who is a cyborg, is in stasis in a tube, and he's pulled by a robotic arm out of a "shelf" full of "fetuses" contained in tubes, and the shelf goes for several stories high. His container is broken and he's put on the floor, lying limp, and the robotic arm inserts a robotic device on to his back. He then becomes alive, and a robotic voice tells the child, "Welcome to life, Irken child. Report for duty."
