I stumbled upon a site and visited another one about near-death experiences. What do you guys think about them? I personally think it's strange how so many people have experiences that when they die they are at peace, etc. Some, yes, do have visions of hell, but not all. Do you guys think any of this is reliable? What are your opinions of near-death experiences? Can they be used to "see" whether if heaven or hell are real?

Paul writes about an NDE in 1Corinthians 15 and seems to take it seriously and accept what happened in it.

I "studied" NDE's when I was in college, and actually became quite obsessed with the subject. I was intensely curious about it, and I had my reasons. Primarily I was curious to find out if my own strange experience (I didn't die, and I wasn't out of the body, but had some kind of weird vision) had anything to do with what happened to these people.

There are so many opinions out there regarding NDE's, but the thing that struck me most was that people with no prior religious convictions had such similar experiences - both negative and positive. Most would say, when pressed, that they believe it altered their perceptions, and their lives.

Of course it's all subjective. But in the words of one NDE'r: "there is no proof till it happens to you, and then there is none necessary"

Hi jimmybob!

You bet NDE's and even OBE's offer evidence for the continuation of consciousness after physical death and that ones soul frequency or spiritual caliber does influence where one goes when the spirit/soul leaves the body. This is natural....as the law of vibration or corrspondence - every soul goes to realm that is attuned to his own spiritual level of being or soulic condition....and logically from there has opportunity for growth, development, advancement.

Here are some super resource sites for your studies

The two mega-sites should be ample to get you into deeper study and 'evidences' for the After-life. As a primer remember that heaven or hell and all the various states inbetween and beyond are 'states of consciousness' - naturally if the soul lives on independent of a physical body...he will carry these states of mind/consciousness with him wherever he goes - also logically there are spheres in the spirit-world which are populated with like souls because they all share the same vibrational level or spiritual development. So...this explains the regions of heaven and hell...within and without!

May your studies be rewarding!

Having never had one myself I honestly don't know.

I came close once, but that was only Ivo singing "Like a virgin" on pal talk.

I stumbled upon a site and visited another one about near-death experiences. What do you guys think about them?
I find them interesting and sometimes compelling.

I personally think it's strange how so many people have experiences that when they die they are at peace, etc. I don't find that strange at all. We only have accounts from those who come back. If, as has been proposed, the experience is a deceptive one (likely demonic in origin) then I would expect the visions to be 'heavenly' - after all, the more folks that are convinced that everyone goes to heaven regardless, the more that find out the hard way it's not true - every demons dream.

On the other hand, if the experiences are valid, and as is often reported, life altering, I would also expect them to be predominately positive. People simply respond better longer to positive influences than they do negative, for the most part.

Also, those experiencing hellish visions might be considerably less likely to report those visions, don't you think? "I died and went to hell" - not exactly something to write on the Christmas cards, is it?

Some, yes, do have visions of hell, but not all. Actually, these are the ones I find most compelling - little reason to lie and little presumable reason for them to have been deceived.

Do you guys think any of this is reliable? The reports themselves? In most cases, probably yes. The interpretation of the experience - kinda needs to be evaluated case by case, but I see no reason to dismiss all NDE's simply because we find them implausable....

What are your opinions of near-death experiences? I suspect they are a combination of things. Some probably are actually hallucinations - but those should have distinguishing characteristics if so. Many are valid experiences, but probably break down into both real and deceptive catagories - wouldn't want to have to sort those out!

Can they be used to "see" whether if heaven or hell are real? For the person experiencing it, yes, given that it's a valid experience of heaven/hell. Now, as a proof of continued existence beyond the grave, it may be persuasive but it's not proof to another.
