Hello I have a question about eternal security.

Is it possible to lose your salvation? If so, how?

Could you show me verses either in support or opposition to it?

Hiya Sheffey Thanks for your question.

It's my stance that it can't be done. Romans 8:29 has kind of sealed the deal in many ways. All of Romans 8 is about the deliverance from bondage. John 10:28-29 also gives a strong case for the doctrine. It's my belief that we're given eternal life and eternal life does not end. An old ex-atheist mentor of mine made it clear that you cannot earn or deserve grace.

I would say that you could go to your bookstore and find several good works on this. I have one I haven't read as I bought just recently that has four views on eternal security. "Four Views on Eternal Security." This would be a good resource I'd say as each one along these lines I've read have someone informed on each view writing on his view and then critiquing the other views.

I'd also say, the question entirely might not matter. Why not just go through your life and love and serve Christ? It's my opinion that if you do that, you don't have to worry about the question.

To be fair, I'm going to find an arminian on our staff to answer this question also and someone from the Calvinist perspective as well as I'm in the middle ground.

Hope this helps!

A read through the General Epistles (Hebrews through Revelation) will show many warning scriptures about enduring to the end, or you may be lost. Hebrews 6:1-10 is a classic text showing that one may fall away, and if they do, they will not be able to return.

I also point to Col 1:21-23, which most clearly states the condition of salvation, that being faith. It is faith that initiates our salvation, and the enduring of our faith which continues us on to eternal life.
