1 Corinthians - Chapter 12

1Cr 12:1 Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

1Cr 12:2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

1Cr 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

1Cr 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

1Cr 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

1Cr 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

1Cr 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

1Cr 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

1Cr 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

1Cr 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another [divers] kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

1Cr 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

1Cr 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also [is] Christ.

Remembering that these gifts are given to the church (corporately) and for the building up and edification of the body, .

1Cr 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual [gifts], seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

also the fact that we (individually) are all told to test the spirits what is discernment of spirits? How is it different to Discernment?And can it be turned into a "ministry"

just curious ? :huh:

I think personally that discernment relates to being able to look at situations and find the right and wrong. To be a good judge of character for instance and to recognize baloney when one sees it.

How could that be turned into a ministry? Christians with the kind of job where that's required can help out in the church. Judges and lawyers come to mind for instance.

Hope this helps!

Remembering that these gifts are given to the church (corporately) and for the building up and edification of the body ... also the fact that we (individually) are all told to test the spirits what is discernment of spirits? How is it different to Discernment?And can it be turned into a "ministry"

Possibly, the gift of discernment is paired with the telling of prophecy, just as the interpretation of tongues is then paired with "kinds of tongues." If so, the gift of discernment of spirits may mean the discernment of genuine from ingenuine human prophesying, that is, true versus fake prophecy. It may even refer to angelic versus demonic prophesying, but "spirits" are never evil in Paul's surviving writings, although evil spirits are referred to in Enoch, Jubilees and 1QS.

A similar pairing of gifts (prophecy and discernment) appears in 1 John 4:1-2 and 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22.
