Where have the Mormons gone, long time passing?
Where have the Mormons gone, long time ago?
Where have all the Mormons gone?
Gone to hiding, everyone,
When will they ever learn - When will they ever learn?
I wonder where all our Mormon friends have departed to? I'd like to have a good discussion with them, but there are few if any takers. Well, anyway, I do wish the Mormons out there a Merry, Merry Christmas (even though we disagree doctrinally about Christ) - Mormons do put out a great spread on Christmas! At least they're not like the dour Watchtowerites with their anti-Christmas stuff.
Merry Christmas from your Christian friends!

Well, that could be. Or else, they got into the spiked eggnog down at the local Episcopal Church and are repenting.

Yes,....mormons do celebrate Christmas with just as much gusto as some christians. The J-dubs......I really wonder what they do.....and the poor kids. Sad eh? - or maybe they are really happy? I drove by one Kingdom Hall the other day...and it could really use some windows! - I would recommend some multi-colour stained glass ones! - give it a little life.
Even though lds may worship a different Jesus ......let us reflect the living Christ and His Love....for that is all that truly avails. There is only One Christ and all will acknowledge His Light in time and eternity.

Yes, the Kingdom Halls don't have windows lest the light of the Gospel shine in.
As for Mormons, they do have a wonderful time at Christmas, don't they? I have often spent Christmas Eve with a widowed Mormon friend. She really doesn't understand that the Mormon Jesus is not the One found in Scripture, and sometimes I believe that if she really thought it through she'd come to see the difference.
Let us pray for our Mormon friends at this time of the year - that the Jesus of Scripture might live in their hearts, and that their church might begin to reform its theology. After all, who would have thought that the Worldwide Church of God (Armstrongism) would embrace the Trinity - but they did! Praise God!

Hi Cru,
Yes,.....seems kinda bleak - the J-dub cult-ure.....their assembly halls more like prison camp. Interestingly they feel obligated to share about Jehovahs kingdom and do have at least some respect for scholarship/science even if such is biased to their own position. I recall their 'Life how did it get here - creation of evolution?' book makes a great case for creation.
I'm not sure if the main lds organization will ever reform its primary theology or allegience to JS. Curiously the Community of Christ(rlds) is very protestantized but still keeps to the BoM as part of its canon - it just seems shady that an organization would still hold JS as a prophet but seems they must cling to their early beginnings to give them a sense of authenticity - however they view it. Still.....because they honor their 'past' they must include the good things JS brought into the world while rejecting the rest as controversial. Being kinda half in and half out when it comes to JS however seems disengenious/ambiguous. But whatever floats your boat.

Freelight, one of my closest friends has been married to a JW for many, many years. After their son was killed in a bike accident, the husband's JW relatives got to him with the threat that he'd never see his son again unless he served Jehovah. My friend has had to live with him knocking on doors two or three times each week, no Christmas, no Birthdays, etc., all these years. It is a cult which thrives on guilt and threats. Fortunately, my friend is a solid Christian, and has ministered to many others who have loved-ones in cults - so, God has turned to good that which Satan intended for evil.
I think that as modern technology and science continues to examine the Mormon story, the church's leaders will be hard-pressed not to re-examine the whole Smith scenario. Joseph Smith is a real enigma. He grew up in a family surrounded by supernatural stories. Read his mother's little book, very intersting. His use of special rocks to find treasures in the earth (glass looking) has been documented beyond question. Smith was really a product of his time, was he not? I don't know whether Smith was an evil person - I don't sense that about him. However, I think he got caught up by his own tall tales, and that his imagination got completely out of hand.
It's interesting that when Smith began his church, his theology was basically Campbellite. He was not clear on the Trinity, but was on the Sabellian side, rather than tri-theistic or polytheistic (which is where he ended up). Smith was given a lot of power over people at a relatively early age - and almost seemed to make up his theology as he went along.
I've often thought that there are many Mormons out there who could possibly be genuine Christians as long as they don't believe (or understand) the official doctrine of their own Church (polytheism, works righteousness, etc.). I've encountered some like that, and I'm sure you have as well.
I think we may see a change in the LDS church in the future - it is obviously still a work in progress. The main problem is that its leadership is composed of very old men - they really need some young blood in there! I think younger people are more likely to be a little skeptical of Smith and the official Mormon history.
Change may seem impossible to us - but, with God, all things are possible. Meanwhile, I've always liked Mormons on a personal level and will continue to reach out to them with the Gospel of grace.
