I've never had ones quite like this.
I fell (yes, again) the Sunday before last on the concrete steps outside my house (owwwww!!!!!). I hit my leg just below the knee and my backside right around the hip. Both have just minor visible bruising, but a week later and the wrong move can cause it to hurt badly for several seconds in both places. I can't do it by rubbing - in fact I had a hard time finding the back bruise since I can barely see the outer bruising - but a tap against it, or getting up the wrong way (yeah, yeah, you can guess which one that is...) and it really hurts and not just for an instant either!
Anyone else had something like this happen?

Yeah, deep bruises are painful and take a long time to heal.
Stay off of it as much as possible, take anti-inflamitories, and NO MORE FALLING.

I think we need to hire someone to cart Teally around in a wheelbarrow.

Laura, yes. And they do take a long time to heal.
I was carrying a tub of cat litter down the stairs one day, and the thing hit me in the calf. It didn't particularly hurt at the time, but later I noticed a large red mark and when I touched it, it sent me through the roof.
It literally took about 8 months to go away completely.
And yes, you need to STOP falling!
:sigh:

Yes, I got given a fairly robust roundkick to the upper thigh (higher than they're normally aimed at) once in sparring and it left a bruise that was longer than my hand and about the same shape as California. Normally I'm very hard to bruise. Not only did this bruise, but the bruise was visible in about two minutes which is weird. Any stretching of the muscle meant insta-pain. The effect lasted about six weeks.

Er, thanks.... :uneasy:
Me carting you around in a wheelbarrow makes you uneasy?
I'm not moving to Canada, by the way....:hrm:
Suit yourself... it's only ~30 degrees right now! :sun:
But, I suppose I could hack it in to AL for 8 months. So here's the plan: I'll sleep under the wheelbarrow by night, and cart you around by day!

TL,
there is a homeopathic remedy called Ruta Grav that seems to be pretty effective in "dissolving" bruises. I used it after I was hit by a car while riding my bike, and I also used it on my parents after they suffered from a terrible car accident. Although I'm not a huge proponent of homeopathy, I have found that Ruta Grav works quite well for bruising. Arnica is another remedy that is often prescribed with Ruta Grav for these kinds of injuries.
a little more info:

There's a brand called Hyland's that makes decent quality homeopathic remedies. You can find them at Whole Foods or most other hippy health stores (just ask r00bz--she's totally hip to that jive ).
Also, acupuncture is extremely effective in treating deep bruises (or blood stagnation). Remarkable, actually. My boyfriend is a hot shot soccer player with oodles of leg/knee/ankle injuries. The acupuncturist was able to significantly aleviate his pain and bruising with just one treatment.
As you know, the biomedical remedy is pain relievers and anti-inflammatories. But some Complementary and Alternative therapies can offer speedier and better healing for these types of injuries--rather than just dosing yourself until you forget about it.
Dang...do I sound like that "Natural Cures they don't want you to know about" nutjob...? I sure hope not!
in good health,
ag

Learned a new lesson yesterday: when you have to crawl under a desk to check your computer's power cord, do not put weight on the deep bruise just below your knee as you try to get back up. :egad:
On the bright side, I didn't cry. I almost did, but didn't. :thumb:
On the not so bright side, cursing was involved.
On the 'well I guess it's something' side, my prayer life had a sudden spike upwards. :candle:
On the 'you've got to be kidding me' side, I wish I had just cried - oh man, did that hurt! It hurt for at least twenty minutes and I don't mean just a little! :bawl:
Now it's sensitive as all get out - if you touch it just right...
You guys [i]sure[/i[ these go away eventually? :uneasy:

I'd been out of work three days and they weren't hurting then - plus she had to stick me three times to get me to bleed enough for a finger stick! And he was asking about blood sugars - I was a little preoccupied, okay? :brood:
On the bright side, I didn't have diabetes!

Well, finally remembered to ask the doc while in his office the second time in just over a week for the same sinus infection (he hadn't wanted to give me cortosone since it hadn't been that long since I'd last had it, but when I showed no improvement, he changed his mind, gave me a stronger pack and the usual instructions to go in for a CAT scan - happens ever time I have one this bad or two back to back - is no big thing).
Anyway, he looked at it and said it wasn't a bruise but tendonitis resulting from the contusion. Heating pad + cortosone should help!

Hello all,
:hi:
I think this is the best thread I've read on this forum so far.... It shows sincerity, compassion, group therapy, care and concern for a hurting member.
I would rate it a "10" if I knew how.
BTW... change that tub in for a hot tub so you can soak up to the neck. :teeth:
Are you taking anti-inflammatories? Eleve maybe?
And, next time you are out shopping, but a big piece of thick foam, cut out a head hole and arm holes and put it on as soon as you awaken in the morning.
Prevention is the best cure!
