The last one is about the Battle of Kasserine Pass during WW2. It wsa the first battle in which the American Forces came up against Germans and got pretty well bloodied. It wasn't until a year or so later that the British Army thought the American Army was worth anything.

I saw a set of Warfield's stuff this weekend it was a two volume set put out by Banner of Truth that had things put in that miniscule font that allows them to put a lot in at the expense of the readers eyes, so I passed it up.

Hmm.. the last couple used book that I've bought have been very disappointing. One of them was so old that the map on the inside came out when I looked at it, and one of them has a bent up cover and spine, the pages are yellow and the binding is coming loose. My advice: don't buy used books off Amazon hehe.
Curious are ye?
The one with the map coming out was Ancient Near East Texts; Pritchard, Arthur B.
The bent up one is Crime and Punishment written by that louse Dostoyevsky.
From now on I pay full price for full quality.

That is a shame about the London prices. Do you live near to a branch of the SPCK? They usually have a bargain book section as well as a secondhand section and I have been so fortunate to get so many books related to the subjects I was studying.
Although we live in Gloucestershire we haven't yet got to Hay on Wye. I wouldn't like to leave our little dog Leo on his own all day and I am not sure how animal friendly somewhere like that may be, unless of course someone reading this knows different.
Enjoy your new-to-you books !

Actually, on some aspects he's very good. His view of paul's anthropology I found every interesting, and similar to a view I put forward here a while back. And his views on faith etc aren't a million miles from Lutheran pietism, and thus Evangelicalism. In fact, I was more surprised by how un-radical his views were. but then, it was over 60 years ago.

Solly, this was at the Bristol branch. I know where the one is in Birmingham, (I think). They have been very helpful in the past and have posted book to me. Bristol has a very good Bargain Book and Secondhand Book section. I could have spent hours more there, but for the car on a meter outside and the lateness of the day.
I also hear that Wesley Owen Books are going to have a Bargain Book section at some of their branches. I think Cheltenham branch is too small to have one tho'.

Oh Dear! I have tried so hard to stay away from this particular thread but now I have fallen off the wagon. This weeks books, ordered via the net are
- Nature, Reality and the Sacred by Langdon Gilkey
- Reality and Evangelical Theology by T F Torrance
- The Human Person in Science and Theology (various)
- Text and Truth by Francis Watson
- T F Torrance in a nutshell
There, I feel better already for having said that.
Has anyone here used the website www.continuumbooks.com (http://www.continuumbooks.com) to order stuff? I have and they are good, have both US and UK/Europe site and a good bargains section in theology and also other Biblical/Religious sections.
Oh yes and I also got last month a few other items
A Wrinkle in Time - Madeleine L'Engle (for my daughter, honest)
Explorations in Theology - Jurgen Moltmann
The Spirit in the Gospels and Acts - Craig Keener
The Theology of Jurgen Moltmann (cannot remember the author, am not at home to check).
That really is it for now. Have seen one or two interesting items at www.dovebook.com (http://www.dovebook.com) but I have never used them, any feedback on that one?
Not that I am about to order any more right now, no really I'm not.

Don't know why I didn't think to ask you before. Got any idea where I can pick up a copy of Clinical Theology by Frank Lake? Lots of people quote it but it is a really hard to find item. I would settle for an abridged version right now.
Hmmm. Just seeing what you got there. Copleston, Phillips, Murdoch ... so there is a philosophy theme going on here ? That 'Christian Mission and Modern Culture' series has some gems. WOW!! I just opened it to gaze inside, and see that the foreword references Murdoch's Sovereignty of Good, especially the idea of 'attention' I have mentioned in some other threads. Brilliant!! The book is all about starting with humans as we are made, and going on from there in the spiritual life.

if not... do you keep them as reference? or backups? or do other people borrow your books?
that said, i think that it was origen who, when complaining about all the other sensual attachments people have, addictions to sex, food, music, the coliseum, collections of all kinds, made a special exemption for his large book collection ;)

My latest acquisition is"The Triumph of Faith in Habakkuk" by Donald E. Gowan. I found this on Amazon.Co.U.K. at Pendleburys Bookshop, see www.pendleburys.com (http://www.pendleburys.com/)
Very quick service.
Ah Pendleburys, I have spent many happy hours in their store usually when I should have been writing an essay ot two. Great place.
This week's bargain was 'Short term Psychotherapy:Evaluation and Technique' by Peter Sifneos.
