(KSL/AP) -- A Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple on the South Pacific island of Samoa burned down last night.
The temple, in Apia, Samoa, was undergoing some renovations, and it is believed the fire was related to the construction work.
Renovations were almost complete and the temple was set to be rededicated in October.
The temple was located next to a Mormon church school and mission house. A church news release says it is expected that the temple will be rebuilt, but it is unclear when.
This is the most damage done to any Latter-day Saint temple since the Nauvoo temple fire in 1848. (The Associated Press contributed to this story.)

JOHN MORMON:
And this would prove what, Exmo-Robertson?
Were you aware that the Jews lost the Ark of the Covenant to their enemies for a while? Should their neighbors have concluded that this meant that the God of Israel was a weak God that He could not keep His "mobile temple" secure?
Were you aware that God was killed by the Romans? Should the non-Christians have concluded that this meant that the God of the Christians was a false God?

Hi John
It proves nothing except that a Mormon temple burned down. Thought people would be interested.

Forgive me for suspecting that you did it for more than just that.

Do I sense some prejudice from you against the Samoan people? Do you believe that they are socially backwards people to that extent? If YOUR church members would not do such a thing, Ric, why would you expect Samoan Evangelicals to?
