It will work, but whether it will work well depends on the computer. Do you know any details about how fast it is, or how much memory it has?

In my experience as a Field tech for over 15 years, and one who has done so many upgrades - from Windows 2.0 on up - I would say that unless it is a clean install of Win95, you will probably be better off doing a fresh install.

Upgrades generally require that your system be in excellent shape before the upgrade, to function 100%.. That isn't to say that it doesn't sometimes come out all happy-happy-joy-joy, but it's not the preferable way to go..

If it is at all possible, it would be better to move the data you want to keep somewhere, and if you only have the W2K upgrade, reinstall Win95 fresh, and then upgrade immediately afterwards, and then replace your data.

I know it is more of a pain, as you have to reinstall programs etc.. but the results are genrally better in the long run.

Also, I too would be wondering about Hardware compatability and program compatability if you are jumping from 95 to 2000.. 2000 has no DOS support like 95, and programs requiring it may not function.. hardware will need updated drivers - if available.. etc..

No, it's not a hard process, but it can be a long one..

First thing I would do is check your hardware models, and see if you have all the drivers for 2000 for your stuff.. if not, then the point is moot until you buy new gear..

Just my 2 cents..

IN Love and Peace

That's a rather slow computer, you may be able to upgrade but it will be slower than frozen syrup in January.

besides its speed look at the size you have for storage. 2Gb is pushing it immensly. Win2K with absolutely nothing added is about 600MB. Add drivers, updates, then you are around 700-1Gb. If all you install nothing more than you will do reasonably but you start installing programs and you will find yourself hurtin, cause that drive will be lagging big time trying to access info.

The memory is what kills your upgrade in this situation. Yes, Windows 2000 is a space hog and will eat up a lot of your drive but it can be done. I ran Windows 2000 on a 133 MHz computer and got away with it ONLY because I maxed out the memory to 128 MBs. If you at least did that, it would still be slow but liveable. Plus, as JCA stated, do a fresh install because Windows upgrades are horrible, especially the one you are proposing from Windows 95 to Windows 2000.

Add max memory, if you can, and do a clean install and you should be okay.
