This is what I'm talking about. Just from a mere glance at their site and their system of belief, you can smell "rip-off". At least Heaven's Gate's (http://www.heavensgatetoo.com/) members were *genuinely disturbed*. The big surprise to me, was the number of actual members. Something in the 50,000s, wasn't it?

These guys have been around for a long long time. I think their appeal is that they provide what a lot of unbelievers are looking for - that is, a religion that appeals to every carnal desire you might have, doesn't make you do anything difficult like commit to a life of obedience and repentance, and essentially provides a foundation and "justification" for being a selfish baby for the rest of your life. Then there's the french guy in the white gown that lulls adherents into the false sense that they have something Jesus-like. The devil sure knows how to seduce.
