Yes, here we are, all done, locked and loaded. :woohoo: Now for the usual introductory comments....

1) There are THREE baubles in this one alluding back to RP #2 -- one easy, one moderate, one hard. Pay attention now, Darth, so you see this the first time you read through. :hehe:

2) Credit goes to JSDileo in this one for giving me the name and acronym for Hearthstone's version of the Internet (p 58).

3) This is the first time I'll be dealing with the issue discussed a while back about relationships between males and females of the different races. And yep, I decided to make use of that idea of a play written by Hearthstone's version of Shakespeare written with a Romeo and Juliet type theme.

4) It didn't end with Farrell Till in spandex, but.... close.

5) The February 2006 Screwball feature is up too.

Enjoy! I have to go out and count some more cows this afternoon. :ahem:

I'd rather just enjoy it the first time through without being distracted.

I'll post them as I find them though.

Heh heh, that's the moderate one. :hehe: The easy one slipped right past ya.

Wasn't that sheep lady supposed to get her superpower in this issue?

She did get them -- with the very wicked twist, as I promised. We just didn't get to see her use them yet. We'll see how "she" uses them in ST #3.

I'll look forward to the thoughts after you wash the mammoth. I'll have to eat lunch and come back later this afternoon.

I am going to speculate and say that Eidolon left to go visit Sheila. Huh?!?? Huh???

Nope. He went grocery shopping. :rasberry:

I don't actually have any view on where he went (I'm guessing he has someplace he normally goes when he's P.O.'d like that), but he won't be back until ST #4 -- with the exception of a little cameo in #3 in a very surprising place....with someone else very surprising who won't be who you might think. :hehe: Oh, I'm SO mean....

Hmm. At first I liked the Range Patrol series better but now I like this one better (must be all the romance :thumbd:)

I also found the third and last one.

Golly, this from the guy with an avatar of his first toon crush, and who said Pepper was the girl of his dreams? So what were you planning with her, a date at the hardware store? :lmbo:

Yeah, that's Raglen in the cafeteria. Apparently the food at the Elapine military commissary stinks big time and he went out -- WAAAY out -- to eat.

Thankee too. A nice view into how Eidolon views technology.

Be back later this day with the usual secondary thoughts on the origins of the story. Got to count some cows again this morning.

While taking my break here, the usual background comments.

ST #2 didn't have any major narrative puzzles for me to work out, because the whole of this storyline goes back to the second incarnation of the Hearthstone stories I did about 15 years ago. There were some changes, of course -- adding Eidolon into the Von Lucre showdown was the main one; to accommodate him there, a major change was made by having Felicity endangered by the pulverizer beam. The original storyline had a large vat of acid as the danger (which I contrived to be a sort of acid that ate through rock and metal, but not flesh, unknown to Von Lucre -- I expect that's TOO unrealistic, though). The basic premises of Von Lucre's possession and death, as well as S'nay's death, remained unchanged; so likewise Tyra's dual identity as an intelligence agent (though the aspect of the Cartel as the bad guys IS, again, new) and her recruitment of Brom into service.

A slight change was also made in that rather than finding a seed, Felicity originally synthesized "sugar crystals" from the plant's remains; but the theme of fear from an attack and possession thereafter is also the same as the prior incarnation of the stories.

Brom's interlude with Melinda is the only thing taken out of place from the prior incarnation. In that version I had an entire subplot set up in which Brom had a hostile run-in with Hearthstone's version of Larry Flynt, and it was one of his "performing girls" that Brom helped get into a serious education. Melinda will be back again for a rather important scene in the Claw of Vengeance series.

The whole racial thing is new, of course, the product of conversations here and on that other list I once mentioned. I mulled over here the point that in the Tilkrig, we have a race that is yes, smaller than the others by about half, but also one of the more numerous peoples, and very critical to keeping the society functioning. I would expect in that case for some sort of accommodation to occur: Brom's accommodation to Tyra's height while talking is one example I used, but another (which I'll bet Darth didn't notice ) is
that if you look at the door to the Tilkrig school, you'll see that the handle is suited for Tilkrig height as well as that of the other races. What else might we see? Countertops with either a lower area for access by Tilkrig, or perhaps a climbing pole? I expect that the Tilkrig themselves, being in a somewhat advantageous position as Hearthstone's tech wizards, would (except in the Northwest, of course) have significant say in how far and in what way accomodation would be made to their height. Any thoughts on that?

Final note: ST #3-5 will all depart almost completely from the prior incarnations of the storylines (the third one being the Range Patrol crossover) #3 in fact is entirely original as a story.

Actually I didn't notice it before because I've seen those things in our world. Not that Melinda needs it because she's almost as big as Brom.

Er, well, actually, the Mrs. LIKES that kind of stuff. :glare: :rasberry: Better than crap like Disney World, in fact. Just don't tell a potential date you'll be EATING at Home Depot is all.

Oh yes, one other thing. I'm checking out techniques for drawing super-speed characters while they run and do other actions. The possessed Sonica will be doing one action in particular, over and again, that I've already worked out; but for running in general, any feedback on what looks good? I've got my old Captain Carrot comics, and the super speed character (Fastback the turtle) mostly looks corny with a sort of rotating spin being subbed in for his legs.

Hmmm...I don't know how to draw, but I guess you would draw the outlines kinda fuzzy and put straight lines behind the character (like he's moving, obviously).

And since when was Disney World crap?:glare:

That's what they did with Fastback and it just seems kind of dull. In the first Hearthstone iteration I just had two lines trail behind Sonica, one from the head and one from the feet, with blank space in between. But I'd like to do better than that.

And since when was Disney World crap?:glare:

Since I've visited it 100 bajillion times thanks to living 10 miles from the front gate. :bonk: Trust me...it gets old after the third visit. Before long you want to stuff Mickey headfirst into one of the much-too-clean-on-the-outside trash cans.

And there's also something obscene about a place that charges that much for admission -- enough to feed a family of four for a week.

And...don't get me started.

I always liked the animation that leaves transparent copies of the subject behind them.

I'm taking a closer look at the page, and I think maybe your finger slipped while typing, JP. In the second yellow text box for the second panel, there's a ">" where I'm guessing there should be a "?".
