Is there really any difference between being a Christian and being saved (I mean by God's grace through Christ alone by faith alone)?

Hello Ebor. Thanks for your question!
As far as I can tell, no. The one who is a Christian was meant to be one who was a "little Christ" from what I gather. His lifestyle was to match Christ. Such a person is saved and "In Christ". This is why the right Christ is so important. The Christ of the cults and the Christ of Christianity cannot be the same person. It is essential to be in the right Christ.
Hope this helps!

One more quick question:
If someone were to say that what makes a person a Christian is completely laying your life down before Christ (the right Christ as you noted), would that be the same as saying you were saved? I had someone give me that as a def. of what makes someone a Christian. I always thought that laying your life before Christ was a result of your salvation, since a person is saved when they accept in thier mind that what Christ did on the cross is what is required to enter into heaven.
Do you think I might have missunderstood this person?

I would say that all Christians are to lay down their lives, but we don't do it perfectly. You don't do it to earn salvation, but because you have been saved.

Hmm... That's what I thought.
Thanks for the help.
