As a Christian it bothers me that, in general, watching movies showing nudity and sex is shunned by Christians, yet movies showing graphic violence are no big deal. Is this a double standard I'm seeing here?

I guess the violence has no impact on me but the porn does, hence the apparent double standard.
Don't bring this subject up again or I'll bash your head in with a claw hammer.

Technically, that's not a double standard since the two things differ significantly (and at the very least you haven't made the case for why they should both be considered under the same standard).
I have heard some Christian concern re: violence - and many of the worst offenders will get called on both grounds (let's face it, R is gonna usually mean both). To my mind there are differences between purely gratuitous violence, which I would restrict (and do from my own TV habits) and violence that is a natural part of the story line. I'm not of the opinion that absolute abstinence is always a good thing - because it is a part of this fallen world with which we should be familiar (but not part of). That said, age and content are still big considerations with both violence and sexual content.
I guess I don't see a one size fits all solution to both. And overreaction in the opposite direction actually seems more harmful to me in the long run. Cutting up Bugs Bunny makes you look obsessive - and makes it much harder to get others to take the complaints seriously. On the other hand, cutting out the really graphic stuff in favor of the cutaway or less gruesome death allows the audience to follow the action without the gratuitous gore that doesn't do anything but shock - and eventually inure.
Oh, and don't mind MG - his hammer is Gerbil sized - he can't even break skin with it.
The AK does sting, though.....

God says "Anyone loving violence my soul certainly hates." -Psalm 11:5
Now the question remains whether that applies to only doing the violence or loving to watch it as entertainment. In ancient Rome the gladiator contests and having criminals fight wild animals was common entertainment. And people going to watch it could always say, "Well I didn't kill him, the gladiator did, or the lion did. I just like watching it happen." I have a hard time picturing Paul and Peter preaching peace and love all day and then going to the gladiator arenas at night and watching one man kill another man as part of their entertainment. I think we all know what Jesus would do. Some just don't want to admit it.

I don't know. I am willing to guess Jesus, who was not just the son of God but also a 1st century AD Jew, listened to violent and sex ridden stories and folk tales for entertainment just like anyone else in his time.
Personally, as long as their are not kids or somethign around, I don't have a problem with sex or violence in film.

Are we forgetting that the Bible also contains both?

There are numerous places in the OT where servants of God made comments about their "ears turning away from badness " and "not sitting with men who speak perverse things."
Personally, as long as their are not kids or somethign around, I don't have a problem with sex or violence in film. And yet Jesus tells us to be like little children and Paul tells us to be "babes as to badness." You correctly recognize it's not proper for children to witness such things. Now you need to recognize that you should be like your children and not witness such things either. "Let fornication...not even be mentioned among you, just as it befits holy people; neither foolish talking nor obscene justing, things which are not becoming"- Ephesians 5:3

This just demonstrates how badly skewed our values are. Western Civ has a sick obsession with sex. Sex is wrong, sex is dirty, yada yada yada. For instance, the British call the genitals (slang) "naughty bits."
But violence is condoned and even supported. Our obsession with having and using guns is one example. It would be great if Charleton Heston would get as passionate about stopping violence, war, poverty, disease as he is about having the right to keep and use death devices.

I'm familiar with Heston but not Moore beyond knowing he did that movie---which I didn't see either.
Considering your screen name, I'd guess you support violence and death?????

Yes. I have a special area set up in my back yard where I throw illegal immigrants and give them half an hour to hide before I go in with a shotgun and hunt them for fun. :ahem:
