Memo from vice president's office demands Fox News on TVs, Diet Sprite
Updated: 11:28 a.m. ET March 23, 2006
Like many rock stars, Vice President Dick Cheney has a checklist of requirements for his hotel suites. But you won’t find bottles of booze or bowls of green M&Ms among the demands, according to a document posted on The Smoking Gun Web site.
The site, which collects public documents on crime, celebrities and politicians, says it obtained the memo from a hotel employee prior to a Cheney visit.
The “downtime requirements” memo includes fairly mundane requests such as a king or queen sized bed, a desk with a chair and a container for ice.
The vice president also requires that all televisions be tuned to Fox News, and a pot of decaf coffee and four cans of "Diet Caffeine Free Sprite" be in the room.

While I'm not surprised to hear that Cheney watches Fox, I am curious as to why he might require them to turn all of the televisions to that channel. Can't he use the remote like everyone else?

No.
I wonder if the remote would cause interference, like cell phones on air planes.

My guess is that it refers to how most hotels have a standard "hotel channel" that the TV locks onto. Cheney likely wants the default to be Fox News.

The Fix news thing aside (only because it's odd, not because I think it's outlandish), it was good to see that the veep's requests are rather tame compared to what many other celebs making special requests will often ask for. I daresay that if I called ahead to most nice hotels (Marriot, Hilton, Sheraton, etc) I could easily get them to do much the same for me. At a price of course...

I imagine because he already sees and hears outlandish demands on his job, he just wants to get away from it all...

But can you imagine the bad karma of turning on a TV and having Keith Oberman blabbing manure on MSNBC? (PMSBC)

First, I like Keith Olbermann, so unless you're going to back it up all you're doing is blowing hot air.
But seriously, how exactly is hearing opposing views going to cause bad karma? Don't we want our leaders to listen to more than just those who agree with them?

Plus, there's also such thing as being able to pick up the remote and change the channel.
...
Oops. Once he picks up the remote, it becomes a circular argument.
He could also turn OFF the TV (or refuse to turn it on), and do something constructive and educational, like read a book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590080017/ref=sib_rdr_dp/104-4656422-0387909?%5Fencoding=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&no=283155&st=books&n=283155) .

Well, it would be a far sight better than tuning into Fox in the middle of a Bill "I won two Peabody Awards (not)" O'Reilly rant.
