View Full Version : Why should Christians be soft on Criminals?

Liberals keep telling us that to be Christian we must forgive criminals and let them go free. But what did Jesus actually teach? Jesus did not write a text book on running a country. He wrote a text on salvation. He made this perfectly clear when he said "My Kingdom is not of this world." and "render unto Caesar....".

It is blasphemy to assume that his parables are instructions about economic management or agricultural practise. They are intended only to illustrate theological points and are not meant to be taken literally.

Jesus was God and could have done a superman act and kicked the Romans out and set up welfare agencies if that was his purpose. But he came with a message of salvation - nothing else.

He never said " abolish the death penalty". He never said to the woman "Go and sin as much as you please." He never said to the men "do not cast the first stone".
He did teach "sell your cloak and buy a sword." He did not say to Peter that he should not protect himself and the message. He did not say that man did not need to eat bread and should not work at an honest trade for a living. He did not say that if your Nation was attacked by enemies you should not defend yourselves.
He left these decisions to Caesar.

He did not teach "Blessed are the criminals, Blessed are the Gays"

Funny thing is that for two millennia Christians had no problems with such questions, then suddenly the Atheists come along and tell us that you have gotten Jesus all wrong and Christians start feeling guilty about following the teachings of Jesus and feeling that being a Christian is wrong.!

Well there is one thing we can all be 100% sure about and that is that Jesus was no Atheist!

pshew...feel better now?!?!? do you really want a response, or did you just choose to go on a polemical rage? cause there's plenty to talk about here, and plenty I disagree with, but I'd love to hear from you that you're willing to talk and aren't just on to have an audience.

Well I don't know about you, but there is no way I would go to all the trouble researching, writing, editing and posting this matter if I did not want to talk - find out what other people think? I see no other point in posting on the Forums other than to engage in dailogue?

I've been arguing for years in chatrooms and usnet with people who claimed to be liberals and they often insisted we aren't good Christians if we judge others. Their favorite 'Bible' quote is: "judge not!"

If that was what Jesus meant he would have said "sack all our Judges - let all Criminals go free. But he did not say that because he did not mean that.
