  • Building others up

I've been doing some thinking about Ephesians 4:29. Usually we focus on the negative side of this verse - what not to do, but I don't know that we think as much about the other side, what to do. I know I could work on this one myself. What do you do to help build others up with your speech?

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
"I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

Me? Often it's what I don't say - keeping to myself when what would otherwise come out isn't constructive... or remotely nice... and those things likely to do harm (only). Giving my best advice when I can - and it's likely to be received without the aforementioned harm. Sometimes, just listening is the most helpful.
