View Full Version : Pics: What Should I Name My New Dog?

I unexpectedly got a new dog tonight. A lady who was a victim of domestic violence (and also got her utilities cut off) was getting rid of her suddenly and moving quickly! So my friend, who was her neighbor, called us and we picked her up.
She's a Boxer (fawn) like our other one, but a female (obviously), not quite as flashy as Max. She told me the dog is 16 months old, but she is incredibly tiny for that age. She looks to be the size of a 9 month old. Maybe she's runt? Or maybe she'll keep growing? I'm serious, this dog can't weigh much more than 30 pounds, if that.
The two dogs are getting to know one another but it's going differently than I expected. To be frank, I figured Max would be already tryin' to...... um..... make her his female dog. The dude has been begging for a wife for a long time. But the opposite is occuring. She is a bit, um.... scrappy, to say the least. Quite fearless, indeed. She just follows him around, slapping him around, boxing him down. He looks at her like:   It is a bit disturbing that he is not asserting himself as the leader of the pack, like he did with my basset hound. He's walking around a bit confused, looking very uncertain. :frown: I feel kinda bad for him. I hope he realizes that it is okay if he is the boss, sometime soon? He hasn't even come close to trying to grab her by the scruff of her neck, nor rest his head above hers, or any of that stuff. But it's still early. :nsm:
To be frank, he's just being a total sissy, and she is enjoying the heck outta punking him.
Anyway, here are a couple of pics of her. She is very cute, I am hoping it works out and we keep her. I went over and got her because the lady was going to turn her loose. My husband and kids like her. We'll see how it goes. Unless she bites my kids or something weird I don't see why she can't hang with the family, too.
One thing that has got to go is her name: "Sissy".
Uh, she does not look like a Sissy. :thumbd: She doesn't even answer when she gets called that anyway. No offense to anyone who may have a dog named Sissy, but I cannot bring myself to call a Boxer, Sissy.
I'm thinking more of a name like "Greta".
Help me come up with a suave name for my new dog.

Help me come up with a suave name for my new dog.Deefa ("D for" dog). This may not make sense unless you have an Australian accent. Not suave, but after all, dogs aren't especially suave creatures.
I name my dogs after mythical gods. So far have had Titan, Zeus, Loki, and Bacchus - as in the photo.

OOooooOOOooo..... i like the name Loki.
Well, after giving it not even 24 hours yet, whatever-her-name-is, is going to a different home.
She peed on my floor, crapped in my son's room, and bit my kid's finger, drawing blood.
She seems to really adore women-- she sits by my side all the time and lays at my feet. Anyone who is male who approaches me gets snapped at, growled at, or bitten. She does not like my son, nor my husband at all. She seemed okay at first last night but.....
A friend of mine's mother really wants her badly, so I am taking her over there later. I've known her for years, and I think the dog will be a lot better off in her home. There are no kids in the home, no other dogs (their dog finally died and they want another one), and it's just her and her female partner in the house. She'll be treated well there, and will be in a man-free home, as she is used to.
I'll have second dog someday! But now isn't the right time, nor are she and my family compatible right off the bat (I don't have time for dog issues right now with the house we're working on). But at least she wasn't turned loose by her former owner last night, to roam the streets and possibly get hurt or something.
So all's well that ends well.
P.S. Mark, your dog is beautiful.

There's a god named titan? You should get an albino dog and name him Raiden.

I got a cat from the pound and named him Admiral Archimedes Fuzzbucket. Then he attacked me a number of times and Archie went back to the pound.

hi,
i know you said it will be going to a different home... ok, anyway, just for the sake of the festivity of giving 'it' a name..
You said your other dog's name is Max and that this one might be a runt, so i was thinking ...

That way u could call both dogs at the same time..

My first animals were named action words.
"Pounce" for my rabbit
"Wag" for my dog.
Looking at this dog, I suggest "Slobber"

I know that it's going to another home, but there was a boxer that lived across the road from us, when my family and I lived in the country named Shelby. She had flopply ears though, and not stuck up ears like that dog, so it probably wouldn't work for her.

Christy, this dog has floppy ears, too, they were just laid back in the pic.
I'm thinking it's time to pack her stuff up and ship her out a few hours early today, but I dunno if my friend's mom is really gonna want her :nsm: She just tried to go through the window on my front door to get at my daughter who was coming in the house. I mean, she looked like she was out for blood and I could barely control her. Max is suspicious of strangers and is a good guard dog, but this one's a bit over the top. She acts like she wants people's throats.
I know she's in a transition period and stuff, but this dog is real weird. Reminds me of a drug dealer's dog or something. :lolo: I've never seen a boxer before that was such a loose cannon.

There's a god named titan? You should get an albino dog and name him Raiden.Actually, it was a group of gods called the "Titans" which were precursors to Zeus and his bunch. The leader of this lot was Chronos and contained Uranus, Prometheus and Atlas - probably the more likely recognised names these days.

OOooooOOOooo..... i like the name Loki.Norse god of Mischief - and it fitted, but he was a good dog.
She seems to really adore women-- she sits by my side all the time and lays at my feet. Anyone who is male who approaches me gets snapped at, growled at, or bitten. She does not like my son, nor my husband at all.Probably got a severe beating or two from a male at some stage. As a kid, I had a dog that was a terror to anyone in uniform and on a pushbike- the postman kicked his ribs in when he was a pup and he never forgot it.
P.S. Mark, your dog is beautiful. He is probably the best looking dog I have ever had and one of the craziest as well. Still, he is good at discouraging door to door salesman.

I like the name Lolita. Seductive, yet naughty- and she's a very pretty girl. I bet she's a little flirt. And a lot of male dogs will let the girls beat up on them. In dog culture (as with other large carnivores including the cat family) the females actually call the shots in their social hierarchy even though they are smaller. I admit I prefer female dogs because they tend to be healthier, live longer and are generally smarter than the males- but the males are larger and tend to be more affectionate.
If she were a male I love the name Enrique- but all our dogs are all girlies- and we liked their names when we got them (Kayla, the German Shepherd, she's 15 and still going, Clara, the Belgian Malinois who looks intimidating but is really a big sweet love dog, and Lilo, the Chow/Shepherd mix who is sweet but also very headstrong and has mega attitude.) If I ever end up with a male dog- I'd almost like to have a big slobbery male Rottweiler and name him Enrique just to see the expressions on people's faces when I call the dog and they expect to see an ankle-biter.
She sounds tiny for a female Boxer- shouldn't they be at least 50-60# when full grown? Hopefully you can have your Vet check her out soon to give you an idea of her health and age. Most large breeds don't stop growing until they are 18-24 months old.
