I found it interesting to learn about the different waves of the KKK and how "The Birth of a Nation" film and partisan politics played a critical role in their resurgence at the beginning of the 20th century.

Birth of a Nation is a classic, but it is rather unsavoury.

I own it. I guess it goes to show the political power of movies.
They seem to be more explicitly political more frequently these days and hopefully people are becoming more conscientous when they watch movies and not just thinking of them as mindless popcorn entertainment.

About 20% of all Americans were either members or supporters of the KKK in the early twentieth century; it's something people don't like to talk about. Obviously, KKK membership has statistically dropped sharply since then.
