The good news is that Quanta has filed the paperwork to begin the process of applying for a visa to move to the US. So, now it is just a matter of playing the waiting game. It takes something like five months. However, the bad news is that I am still unemployed. I have been claiming Jobseekers Allowance, but they decided to stick me on a four week mandatory work placement. Which would be fine except for a few things: it is unpaid, the place is already overstaffed, it is cramped and out of the way, it is not even in the same town where I live (I don't have a car), it's 9-4 every day yet I am expected to be working full-time. I went Friday and literally spend most of the time sat outside getting sunburnt, since, due to the place being overstaffed, there was nothing to do. Well, this morning, I got up at the usual time, and went to the bus stop. However, it turned out I had missed my bus, and it was pouring with rain. The prospect of four weeks of this was simply too much, and I had a panic attack. So, I went home and didn't turn up. I e-mailed the representative from the company that is contracted by the government to sort these things out. I will most likely phone them in the morning. I am most likely going to get sanctioned and have my benefits cut. I simply can't do this. If it was in the same town, was remotely connected to my area of specialisation (I have an MA in History), and I actually had stuff to do, I could do it. I just need a source of income until I move to the US, but the area I live (the Isle of Wight) is simply an economic wasteland. There are no jobs and no prospects. There is no hope and no future here. I do not know what to do. I have money saved up, but I will have to start spending it, when I need it to move to America.
I have set up a GoFundMe thing here: http://www.gofundme.com/mhb0dg
I'm already at £650/£1,000. If I got the last £350, then maybe I could last a few months without having to dip into my savings. I am trying to sell my guitar amp also, which I could probably get about £400-450 for, but I can't find anyone who will buy it. I could try a music shop, but they won't pay that much for it. I don't know what to do. If I were in the US right now, then at least Quanta and I would be together, and I'd be able to actually further a career that is at least somewhat related to my area of specialisation. Please, pray for Quanta and I. I don't like asking people for money, but if anyone could spare anything, then even the smallest donation would be appreciated. I just need enough to last me until my visa application goes through, and then have enough to fly there and ship my belongings over.
