This is a true, honest-to-goodness event that happened in 2001 on a mission trip to South Dakota.
It happened on the last day of working on peoples' homes when a rather serious storm blew up on us, and washed away most of the fresh coat of paint that we had just put on this gentleman's house in the SD prarie. (Beautiful place--and the best tasting water I've ever had, but that's beside the point.)
So as we were cleaning up to get ready to depart, one of the adults from our crew stands up under a tree branch that had a sharpened edge and managed to injure himself pretty good on it. We're talking a modest amount of blood going everywhere, and he needed medical attention to get it fixed. Because this guy's driveway was turned into a six-inch-deep trough of mud, we couldn't use the 12 passenger van to get him out--the camp staff had to get him in a Jeep to get him out and to the local hospital.
So...the rest of us had to walk about a mile to the main paved road to be picked up once we were done. However, one of the other crew leaders fell into some mud along the way, and sprained her ankle and needed assistance walking the rest of the route.
The guy who hit his head was named Jack.
The lady who sprained her ankle was named Jill.
Therefore...Jack fell down and broke his crown, and Jill came tumbling after.
I couldn't have made it up had I tried. (Epilogue: Jack needed stitches, and both were fine by the next day.)

One time we were on a mission trip to an orphanage in a little town in Mexico. Our group was in charge of digging a fire line. There was also another group there (some sort of high school VBS from CA) at the same time, and they went and bought TONS of m80s. Well, on the last day, they had about 50 left over. So the LEADERS put them into a pile, soaked them in gasoline, and made a trail of gas to light it. And there were kids standing ~40' away... Let's just say that it was a good thing we had finished our job. They didn't start much of a fire, but it was DUMB cause we were in the middle of a desert!!!
What was funny was that my sister later started a fire with a little firework called a "garbonzo bean"... it spins around and shoots sparks when you throw it on the ground.... and that should have been a lot safer!!! Fortunately, we were able to stamp it out before it reached the pile of brush I had cut... But her little firework done in the perfectly safe environment of a basketball court had WAY MORE IMPACT than the mass stupidity of the VBS leaders...
ps.. they did the same thing with their flying fireworks earlier... too lazy to set them off themselves...

I don't know if this counts, but here goes:
On Sunday there we had a 'Missions Emphasis' morning service. One of the young guys in our church has been on a few missions and he'd just returned from a trip to Mexico which wasn't strictly missions, but he was attending some international youth conference.
Anyway, the bit I found funny (too funny) was when he was giving a brief report on it during the service and commented on how good the Mexicam food was, and how hot and spicy it was... then he completely lost it... and quipped "It kept me regular!" ... and as half the congregation laughed and the other half blushed, he continued... "Four times a day...!"
