View Full Version : Resurrection of the body

Before I became a Christian, my daughter died and I had her body cremated because it was less expensive and I had been taught that it was the best thing to do for the environment and to save the space on the earth for living people. I thought at the time I was doing the right thing.

Then I became a Christian and learned about bodily resurrection at the end of time. I read an article a couple of months ago that said that Christians shouldn't be cremated because they will need their bodies at the time of resurrection.

Does this mean that my daughter is gone forever and I have taken away her chance to live forever when Jesus returns? Or is there a scripture that indicates that will she return from her ashes anyway?

Hiya Sparrow! Let's look at your question.

First off, my sympathies for your daughter. It must be something horrid to go through and I can understand your concern with this question.

So the basic answer to the question of "Is your daughter gone forever" is "No."

Let's consider some situations.

When the 9/11 event occurred, because some people might have died in a giant fireball, does that mean they are forfeited from all eternity?

When Christians were ate by lions in the Roman Empire and their bodies were digested and what have you, does that mean they are gone forever?

The answer is, no. The body is molecules. Matter is neither created nor destroyed. You don't need the exact body to be there. In fact, anyone who died in biblical times no longer has a body intact. By this argument, none of the apostles would be in the new Heaven then because their bodies are now worm food.

God is fully able to create a new body. Worry not. You shall see your daughter again someday.

Hope this helps!

Cremation doesn't limit the power of God. Do not despair.

As Christians, I believe that we should not cremate, not because it limits God or destroys the resurrection, but we bury our dead to giving a demonstrative indicator that we believe in the resurrection of the body.

But have no fear or despair. Your daughter will bodily rise.

Thank you and, yes, it does help. What you say makes perfect sense to me. I asked, wanting to hear the Truth, not what would make me feel better. I rejoice to see that your answer gives me both.
