Short people are dumber because they are used to having tall people take care of them.

At 5'4", me. I will admit to being short.

On a side note, I have read about quite a few classical music composer notables who were short. Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Schubert were all under 5'6". I got that from book I read in my youth. I just call them the "Towering Giants of the Music World."

I'm 6'4 and also....reasonably smart. Ok, I'm just a modest genius but anyway. And you have to remember with people like Mozart that whilst 5'6 is short for a guy today it wasn't really 250 years ago. You have to look at short people today and you know...in my opinion short people are generally less able at well, everything, than tall people like me...

Sure, the need to walk under a giraffe doesn't come along very often for some people, but when it does, . . . well, . . . it's good to be short.

There might be some truth to this...

Ive found that I am much smarter than children, especially newborns.

I mean they cant even roll over for crying out loud!!!

I always suspected that I was smarter than children and babies especially.... and now I finally know why...although at only 5'6 I couldnt have figured that out on my own.

If you check out those studies you will discover that a positive correlation does exist. It is however quite small. The same goes for studies showing women smarter than men. The correlation is too small to make any individual predictions. It does however suggest a reason that I seem to be less able to concentrate as I get shorter with age.

Oh well .. .. .. .. .. ..

FIRST OF ALL...
actually, it's not the women tend to be smarter than men, it's that they tend to be more disciplined. On the average, men will score higher across the board in almost any subject than women, especially in areas of critical thinking. However women tend to be way more disciplined thus things such as school GPA's and such would tend to suggest that overall they're slightly smarter when in fact this isn't really the case.

SECOND OF ALL...
I also happen to know or a fact that brandalf is 4'11''

THIRD OF ALL...i also know that knowledge is nothing is we have not the wisdom and/or discernment to use that knowledge appropriately.

FOURTH OF ALL...do we get anti-spam in here? I'm trying to lengthen this a little so as to get an extra point...

FINALLY... I'M 6'8'', THE STUDIES MUST BE ACCURATE!!!

I don't think anyone in this thread is particularly smart, given that none of them seem to realise how much better and more efficient it is to use the metric system for weights and measures.

I'm 188cm, for anyone smart enough to work that out...

Hmm. I'm 5'10", which is taller than most people on the west coast of Scotland. In some places here there does seem to be a link between height and intelligence. I would speculate the reason is that people from a poor background are on average less educated. Coupled with a poor diet and a smoking habit from age ten results in stunted growth correlating with lower intelligence.

When I was in second grade we used to play around the world with math flash cards to learn our multiplication tables. We each had a little paper car up on the wall, which was designed as a race track. There were twelve spaces on the wall and every time we made it around the world, we could move the car a space. If we completed the track we got a prize. To go around the world, we had to make beat everyone in class once on their multiplication tables. My teacher said my math skills were so advanced that I had to go around the world twice to move my car once to make it fair for the rest of the class. Aside from me, there was one person that made it around the world four times in the school year so he got four prizes. I had 13 prizes that year from completing the race track. Those kids didn't stand a chance, I've always excelled in math. It was the one (and only one thing) I was always consistantly good at. Those 7 year old second graders should know better than to mess with me in math skills. And I only turned 14 that year.

I'm vertically challanged.......'short' for those of you who don't like big words........5' 3 1/2" to be exact. and while I might be absent minded at times, more so than not, I am not stupid. I granduated in the top of my high school class, always made the Dean's in college, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Acocunting, and a Masters Degree in Finance. I'd be just about done with my PhD, except that I put that on hold so that I can pursue my Certified Fraud Examiners certification, as well as some other training.

my previous boss is 5' 4" and he's a brilliant man! He's got a BA in Accounting, he's a Certified Public Accountant, as well as many other certifications that I can't think of off the top of my head.......

and come to think of it, a good portion of my peers (in my MOS) aren't tall at all. Of the 65 employees in our field, we hold a combined total of 85 degrees, 81 certifications (i.e., CPA, CGAP...).

There's a guy in my field who's around 6' 4", not real sure how tall he is, but he towers over us. Now, he's got his BA, but he wasn't top of his class or anything. And, when it came time for him to test for his certifications....well, it took him 3 attempts at one test before he passed it. so if tall people are so much smarter, why did it take him three times to pass the test, when it took another guy, who's about my height, one time to pass?

So, I truely don't beleive that taller people are smarter. Perhaps there is a correlation between how well children learn to how well their feed, particularly when they're young and in need of certain nutrients to develope their brain and learning mechanisms, but that's it. And if those children who are generally better feed grow up to be taller than those who come from struggling families, well, then okay, we've got some short people in our society, but that doesn't mean tall people are smarter than short people.

but how well would you do on an IQ test big sister? There's a difference between being smart and being knowledgable. Being knowledgeable means you know a lot about a lot of things but that doesn't mean a hill of beans in this world. Bring smart means you know how to use that knowledge.

Take a look at my some of my professors for example. There's a few of them who are knowledgeable beyond human comprehension, in particular I think of my nutrition professor. He knows his nutrition. He was born in Egypt and came to this country, then learned our language before going to school and then went on and got his masters, doctorate and so on...

He's got certifications and recognizations up to yin-yang(that's somewhere in China i think) but the truth of the matter is, he's about as smart as the plaster on my wall. People go through life getting their degrees and certifications in everything and most of the time it means nothing.

Now I know you personally so I can say this isn't the particular case with you, but I know of many people who have degree and plaques and all these other accomplishments and aren't any smarter than the lint in my belly-button (which actually has an IQ of 32, not bad for belly-button lint huh).

When it comes to problem solving and actually using the mind in critical analysis types of things, there's a higher correlation between that and taller people, just the same if you are left-handed you're typically better at math for some reason, it's the way the mind works. That's not to say there's right handed people that aren't good at math, but in general math comes easier to the southpaws.

Not only that, but if I recall when we were younger and you played video games, I remember every time you tried to get Mario to jump, you jumped with the controller. You would literally jump out of your seat and lift the controller up, somehow thinking it would magically make Mario jump higher or more accurately. Now tell me honestly, how smart is that?

On the contrary, if you look at me, I got a 4.0 in high school and college both. If you take my 1.4 in high school and my 2.7 in college that comes out to an even 4.0 so as you see, I am smart and good at math, this is because I am 6'8'' and I am left-handed. What more could there be.

Not only that, but I've now been in college five years and have two more to go. So as you see, it is clear I am the smartest in the family. And you...trying to get Mario to jump higher by throwing the controller higher, thought you were smart...geesh.
