I'm a health major and my area of major concern is actual physcial health and physical well being and focusing on the body, what's good for it, what's not good for it and so on... We go into great detail about all the aspects of exercise and how it's good for the heart and everything it entails, what's good about a particular exercise and what's not good, how to spot if we're doing something wrong. We touh base on kinisieology and exercise sciences and all these other fun things.

We look at nutrition and what's good and bad about all these fad diets (Atkins, south beach...) and when too much of a food can become a risk for different diseases. We look at health from so many apsects and cover it from every angle. There are five major areas that the health fiel consider to be major areas of health. There's physical health, emotional health, occupational health, social health, and spiritual health.

Anyways, I could go on and on about these types of health, but my question here is...why do we, even as christians, spend so much time on our physical health, but so little time on our spiritual health?

We have diets galore which will help us with our image. There's masks, creams, and beauty products galore that make us pretty. We use scented soaps, shampoos and deoderants to make us look and smell great (and I'm not just talking about the women, I lived in a house with six guys and everyone had a differently scented shampoo).

We focus so much on eating right, on caffeine intake and we know what'll happen if we eat too much of something or if we have too little something, or if we aren't active. We know the health effects of being obese and how it can effects even or moods (getting into emotional health). We know that smoking's bad and can lead to lung cancer. Even the non-christians of society preach thiese things on a regular basis.

Don't get me wrong here; I'm not saying we should neglect or physical health. Quite the opposite. We are the temples of God Himself. CHRIST LIVES WITHIN US (assuming we're christian here). Our hearts are the dwelling place of Christ! We need to take care of this house. In the same way when we have a baby, we clean everything and dust so the baby doesn't get sick, we need to keep our bodies clean so Christ doesn't get sick.

it angers me sometimes though that we stop there. Our physical health is NOT the most important thing there is, it's our spiritual health that is. Sometimes we stop at making sure our body is acceptible to Christ and we focus tons on that and a little on our spiritual lives. Just like we eat right and stuff to keep our body good for Christ, too many times we stop just short of keeping our hearts clean for Him as well.

Just like the baby and we clean house for him because he dwells in our house, Christ dwells in us and we need to keep ourselves clean, BOTH physically and spiritually. If you had a newborn baby, you wouldn't keep just their room clean, you'd keep the whole house clean. We keep our hearts physically clean, we keep our liver clean, we keeps our skin clean, we smell good, we look good and make sure our appearance is acceptible in Christ's eyes. Why then do we not keep our hearts spirutally clean.

Physical health is important yes, if I didn't think it was, I woulf've just wasted too much time in school (though it does seem like that anyways sometimes). I'm just saying it angers me sometimes that we spend so much time on our physical appearance (once that'll last maybe 75 years) and in comparison we often spend so little time on our spiritual appearance (one that'll last for eternity). I'm not asking or challenging you to, I'm hereby TELLING all of you to spend more time on your spiritual health. If you already do a good job of this, great keep it up. If not then what are you waiting for...

I was reading an article last semester sometime and it was saying there's five areas of health that are important to keep balanced...There's physical health, emotional health, occupational health, social health, and spiritual health...actually, I think I already put that in there...

funny how we don't actually balance it though huh. We focus on one or the other or maybe if we're really healthy two or three but rarely do we focus on aspects of all five!

Because society doesn't advertise products to make our spiritual health look better like they push the makeup and clothes and how we should look in them.

who cares about advertising, I'm wondering why not even a lot of christians focus at all on their spiritual health, it's just not important enough to some it seems. I understand how messed up our society it, but why do christians fall into that trap too?

 perhaps becasue we're too dependant on the worldly things?

I have to admit, I had no internet for about 2 days, and it drove me nuts! now, i use the internet to stay in contact with my family who are still in Okinawa, and my family in MI as well, but I had become so dependent on having internet access, it about drove me nuts not being able to get online, check my email, do my banking, chat with my kids.......okay, and becasue I couldn't :spam: on tweb too. there, I've confessed it.

perhaps we need to not only seek Christ, but to depend on Christ as well. I haven't really thought this through for a long post or anything, but just wanted to type what I just had in my head.
