Perty pitchers...
For full-size versions, see here (http://leenotes.org/homepage/scenes/alien%201.jpg) (call this one "Far from home" maybe) and here (http://leenotes.org/homepage/scenes/dual%20scene%201.jpg) (erm, I needed a background for my dual-monitor Linux system at work).
Blessings,
Lee
P.S. Done with Bryce 5.5 (http://www.daz3d.com/program/bryce/index.php).

Thanks for the encouragement, peoples! Now what I did is start with having the Bryce program generate a terrain (i.e. a mountain) or two, then I move the viewpoint and stretch the generated terrain some until the mountain looks say, like a far away peak, or like an island, or like a wall, etc. The next step is to assign textures to the mountain (this can make it look rocky, or forested, etc.) and the ground (or a water texture can be assigned to the ground to make it look like water), and then adjust parameters for the sky, to have the sun be behind the viewpoint that was selected (or else the mountain will all be in shadow).
Then maybe I will add a little fog, some grass maybe, or an object like the green swirl, and set the sun's color, press the "render" button, and poco presto! (or poco largo, it takes a long while) it shows a picture. I then can save this picture off to a .bmp or .jpg graphics file.
There's not a lot of actual work involved, only there is a bit of a learning curve to find out which controls will do what you need to do for the above operations, and stuff like which textures are good to use, and how to adjust the sky parameters.
Glad to expand on this or help if you or others want to do some Bryceing.
Blessings,
Lee

It's a program that costs some monies, only not very much, especially compared to other similar programs which run hundreds or thousands of dollars. I have Bryce 5.5, the current version (see here (http://www.daz3d.com/program/bryce/)) costs about $100 (oops! the price went up from last round). There there's what is called "content," which consists of extra objects (ships, houses, etc.) which can be used to make more than just a basic landscape, this costs like $15 to $50 per package.
But the main investment is time, it takes a little while to find what controls to use and how, in order to arrive at a given result. A little geekishness is helpful here...

Lee
