We had gone to visit family for the day and when we got home we found that our dachshunds had caught and killed a bat. While our dogs had had their rabies shots, we sent it in to have it checked and it came back negative. Here's a list of the kills our dogs have made in the yard.

1. They all attacked one rabbit at once.
2. One killed a rabbit.
3. Another killed a rabbit.
4. A different one killed a bird (don't ask me how).
5. One killed a bat (I suspect the same one that killed the bird).

I'm still trying to figure out how one of them caught and killed a bird.

they were in cahoots with a cat

They don't get along with the cat, one of our dachshunds would kill the cat, not because he hates the cat, but because he wants to control the cat, which they cat doesn't understand. If you let him watch young puppies, he'll care for them like a mother.

Now, personally, I'm thinking that the bird was suicidal.

One of our dogs is a rat terrier/Jack Russel mix. She will hunt down and eat anything that moves. A few months ago we had lots of little geckos all over the yard, and she would whine like she needed to go out, but when we took her she just wanted to chase geckos. Before that it was junebugs.
The other dog, a Border Collie/sheltie/spaniel mix, couldn't care less about bugs and lizards.
