Is abortion the only thing we can be activists for/against in this area? Or can we be activists for other causes here too?

That's what I was wondering. When I saw the word "activism" I thought "cool, we can do a lot with this!" So I wondered if we could expand it a bit too, or if it was for abortion issues only. (The expansion I was thinking of is one some churches focus on: the defense of the unborn, the poor, the handicapped and the aged, etc -- all of these very necessary in today's society.)

I was wondering this, because the forum description says "our ongoing commitment to defend the rights of the unborn" or something like that. I'd doubt we'd need an entire forum just for abortion.

There is a lot of need for activism that doesn't just involve the unborn. BTW, where is the forum description?

This forum is at my request. To me it is irrelevant whether we need an entire forum for the subject. The fact is that God has blessed us with this forum, and I feel strongly we need to dedicate an area to the subject that matters near the top to a great many of us, and certainly the three owners. It is dedicating a spot back to the Lord and the babies that are precious in His site. The activity level is irrelevant. It is a statement of this forum's committment to the unborn.

How about a commitment to the born? Fighting systemic poverty perhaps? Lots more problems come from poverty than abortion.

Is the forum to debate abortion or is it just anti-abortion?

Poverty doesn't kill millions of people in the west. The best way to fight poverty is to make sure your worthless ideology goes the way of the dodo.

We have to work on the guidelines. I haven't had time to think about it in full. We can already debate abortion in other areas, this is the equivalent of the missionary forum but towards anti-abortion activism, so my initial is no, it is not a debate area for the subject but I haven't really thought about it and welcome suggestions.

actually I like that idea. I was dreading a whole forum dedicated to threads debating abortion since I pretty much have already heard all the arguments FOR it and they all boil down to "people are just things and morals are relative"

this forum is a marvelous addition to tweb. and i think there's probably a lot you could do with this, DeeDee...resource lists, ways to get involved in your community, ministries to support, a list of facts, etc. i'm not sure what you're hoping to accomplish; i just think there's a huge amount of potential, not just as a means of showing the owners' commitment on the issue, but even...making information available for those who wander by.
i really, really love this addition. i'm praying that your brain is filled with ideas here, DeeDs.

I am hoping that others as well will jump in since my time lately is so filled
I would love to hear about local pro-life ministries and efforts
I am going to try to get a text of a story of something that happened down here - sad, but necessary - about a man who's twins were being aborted and how he was outside the abortuary cryng and pleading for his girlfriend not to go in.
Who is ministering to these men? Sometimes we are so focused on the women, but these children have fathers - fathers who don't even have the right to have a say in whether or not their children are killed, or even to know they exist. Yeah women power. Not.

Maybe change it to something more explicit like "Pro-life Activism" or something?

Indeed... it would help out your supporters as well as keep us heathens from coming in here with our 'social justice' activism if this forum was to be re-named.

For many women, poverty plays a critical role in their decision to abort. Historically, poverty and abortion/infaticide are intimitely related.
