Cows are not often sold for consumption; especially not as prime beef . . .what consumers enjoy as prime, are primarily, steers.

Cows produce babies and milk. Steers are bred and marked and fixed for food consumption, as a general rule.

Of course, you all know what a "steer" is?

Ranchers' sentiments allow that heifers and cows may be named . . .

But steers must be nothing but tagged numbers.
