Please post your pictures of your canine pets!

I have five dogs, and here is my oldest. A Pembroke Welsh Corgi, age 12, named "Cubbie" . . .Momma dog to the other four, through and through . . .too arthritic to herd heifers, anymore, but still Queen and alpha female of the ranch!

This is Abbie-pups. We got her from the Charlottesvile shelter. She's an Australian Shepherd mix. Very smart and very loving.

Here is "Corgi" #2 . . .rescued as a pup . . .expected to be a playmate for #1 Cubbie.

Didn't work. Cubbie hates his guts. Terrible dog fights.

He is a good sport, though, and so far, still possesses both ears . . .

I am not sure that attachment will work....here are Milo and Hailey.

Here is our big boy Milo frolicking in the garage...almost about to confuse the X2 for a fire hydrant! He has his harness on as we are about to go for a walk. Hailey is way too excited for me to be able to get her entire body on the pic.

How did that happen? And how did you get that out?

Teallaura
February 11th 2007, 04:13 PM
It's not barbed and the dog is calm so probably the vet gave him a local and backed it out.

Blackie. My eleven-year-old "puppy."

As you can see, she is being quite rude in this picture.

Yeah, I knew I'd seen it before but didn't remember the particulars.

Rahab

Yeah, I knew I'd seen it before but didn't remember the particulars. The practice is unfortunatly ancestral... In Madagascar in the early 50's, stray animals were used to bait caimans (note sure it is the same word in English... they are gator types but smaller). The dogs would be tied up to the shore of a "marigot" or in the swamps to lure the caiman out of the water. The animal would be captured then with ropes making sure to not damage its skin. All of that to supply the "civilized world" with shoes, purses etc...

My father lost his hunting dog that way as he was wandering about with her near by Antsirabe. It was a pretty gruesome sight to see her being dragged to the bottom of the "marigot" in an instant. He just stood there helpless.

Chances are thousands of dogs and cats have died as shark bait in the waters of the Indian Ocean. I suspect that had been going on for many years. It took several activist motions to convince the French Government to intervene in La Reunion. I recall distributing pamphlets for Greenpeace with pics of "shark baits" in the late 70's. Those were taken in Djibouti. (French TOM).

FYI: Yup, it's the same in English.

I just took these pictures of my poor Blackie today. She was so cold, so Mom covered her with some bedsheets.

In the last picture, she seems to be saying "One more picture and the camera gets it..."

And the irony of these cold dog pictures is that we are in Miami, FL.

But, man, are we cold.

Well I have two beautiful rescued dogs- Clara is the larger of the two, a Belgian Malinois/GSD mix and Lilo, the littler dog is a Chow/GSD mix.

We had our lovely Kayla for four years, (we took her on in her retirement, she was a working security dog until she was 11 years old) but she died from complications of degenerative myelopathy (http://neuro.vetmed.ufl.edu/neuro/DM_Web/DMofGS.htm) back in September. Kayla was a purebred GSD imported from Bavarian working lines, and was still a very beautiful dog when this pic was taken in June, 2006. We miss her very much.

Thanks! We were very blessed to have Kayla as long as we did. GSD's seldom live past the age of 12, and Kayla was at least 15. We decided it was time to let her go when she couldn't stand and walk and she was starting to lose bowel and bladder control. When she was healthy she was very fastidious about her housetraining which made that all the more sad. Dogs with DM become paralyzed in the rear extremities as their spinal cords deteriorate. It's not a painful disease for the dog (though they do get frustrated when their bodies don't do what their minds tell them to) but it is painful for us humans to watch. Eventually DM dogs develop either pneumonia or heart disease because they are unable to keep moving- the DM doesn't kill them directly but the complications from it eventually do. There is no cure.

Kayla was very elderly but she had her mind about her until the very end. It almost broke my heart when the mobile Vet came to our house to put her down. Kayla was a big girl (95#) and she had always been taught to be compliant for Vet procedures. She could not stand without help (part of the reason we called the mobile Vet- so we wouldn't have to try to get her in and out of the car, and we wanted her to pass quietly at home) but she offered her foreleg up for the lethal IV as she knew she was supposed to do when she had blood draws. She passed quietly on her rug on the living room floor.

It's a Neo. Mastiff or an English Mastiff. I do believe it's been photo shopped, but I still like it. I looked it up on snopes but they weren't conclusive. It's suppose to be Hercules the worlds largest dog. 282 lbs

My dog, Cypruss. He is a plush coat German Shepherd. He is imported from Germany. His papers are all in German! he is the best dog, he lives to play tug of war and to fetch the weirdest things (like tools, 2x4's, tiny pieces of paper, anything!).

Her ehe is, face in the wind, giving me a "Hey! Pay attention to me!" bark

The best thing-and it is not cheapening your memory of her-is to get another dog right away. If you dwell on your loss, it will eat at you-and that's NOT what God wants for you. There is no sadness in Heaven-so why should there be any, here?

I love this pic!

My poor Blackie has been feeling ill for nearly two weeks now. She just keeps coughing and coughing and coughing.

Today, however, she showed some signs of her normal, healthy self. She wagged her tail and even ate some food today. I just hope she makes a full recovery!

Anyway, pictures of new dog: a pure-bred long-haired chihuahua. And we got her for free; her previous owner said that she was just looking for a good home for her. She looks like a little fox!
