I don't ask this out of paranoia, only out of curiosity because of a conversation my dad and I had the other day and this was a part of a hypothetical in it.

If the government were to make a law outlawing all firearms all together stating that all regular citizens had to bring their firearms to their local police precincts by a certain date, would it be against the bible to not comply? Even hunting rifles and stuff. No guns, period.

Obey those in authority. Do you observe speed limits? Do you pay your taxes?

Would they ban hunting rifles though? We can have them, but they must be registered, and in a proper lock-up the police know about.

Is there a Biblical mandate to keep and bear arms?

I dunno if the bible says anything about things like that or not-- that's what I pay you guys for**. I know that there are a lot of Christians who don't believe it is right to own one even now. :nsm:

I don't think anything's going to happen like that anytime soon. In fact in my state they just started giving away permits to carry handguns for life for a one-time fee (I think for $120). I think before it had to be renewed every 4 years or something.

It came about as we were discussing a man he went to school with who doesn't believe in registering any guns with the government because then they know exactly who has them and where if they ever wanna confiscate or track somebody. I dunno why the paranoia because the guy leads a very boring life anyways, not like he's a smooth criminal who needs to hide something.
Then the conversation just led to that, so I got curious.

I didn't think it was required for all firearms to be registered. Is it, nationwide? *shrugs* I guess it's just from the area i grew up in - no one ever registered their firearms.

There's certainly a biblical mandate against violent revolution against the governing authorities, which is one of the reasons the Framers felt it necessary to write the "bearing arms" thing into the Bill of Rights.

Maybe something along the lines of God has called us to defend other people,

Psa 82:3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Psa 82:4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid [them] out of the hand of the wicked.
