Well, how many of you are planning to go to out on a mission? If so, where, and if so, what do you plan for your spouses to do?

Yes, I admit it, I posted it because it was funny! You can delete it if you like though.

In my work with GODISNOWHERE (http://theologyweb.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=87), I am a missionary to the pagan nation of the United States of America.

I was a self supporting missionary for six years for an offbeat movement in siberia (Novosibirsk). I will eventually go back.

I believe, by the way, in self supporting missionary work...and I also think it is hard but blessed. And it is not for everyone, but gosh, when you feel God's push, go.

I went first alone, then my husband joined me there, then my kids were born along the way.

God bless.

I plan on doing full time missions. That will definately be a few years from now though. I want to go to R.T.S first and get my masters in missions. I will hopefully go to the middle east or central asia. :metro:

Prayerfully I will be in Niger Africa next year taking the gospel to those who have never heard the name of Jesus! There are 13 unreached people groups/tribes there. I am not sure how long my trip will be. (although I already want to move there)It sounds SO exciting!!! I have also been to Romania. After I finish school I want to be a full time/long term missionary and I can't wait. I recommend short term missions trips for everyone. They open your eyes in new ways and usually they are a beneficial thing if you go to serve those who are there long term.

I'll share something that my counselor told me. He said there are two kinds of missionaries.

The first kind goes to a group of people who don't even know them, and tell this group that what they believe is wrong. They demand everyone believe like them or else ... (hell).

The second kind goes to a group of people and asks them what they believe. They truly endeavor to understand the group's beliefs, and then point out that the God they worship is the same as the God Christians worship. They introduce the extra ideas (not the different ideas) found in the Bible, and unite with these people in continuing worship of God.

Wow! I would have to deeply disagree with you and your counselor. First there are alot of different types of missionaries and the one I strive to become is not either of these. However the first seems to be closer to the model Jesus gave us, because it is truth. He is the way, truth, life and no one can come to the father except through HIM. The major problem I see with the second missionary described here is that they sacrifice truth. I do not worship the same God as the native people of Niger (it is an 85% muslim country) I worship Jesus Christ and I believe the bible when it says that those who do not are going to hell. I feel that for my responsibility is to bring the One True Way to the people of Niger. This model can be seen in the lives of fruitful missionaries such as Any Carmicheal, Gladys Alward, and John Paton who did not sacrific truth, they sacrificed their lives for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Hopefully you see the difference. I hope to go in love with the truth.

I'm lucky enough to have married a nurse. This allows us to do ministry together. She heals with medicine, I heal with prayer...err God does. Whatever. It works and we're loving it.
