One of my favorite writers is no longer with us.
Kurt Vonnegut (http://www.vonnegutweb.com/)passed away this week. He gave us a lot. One of America's best satirists ever, as in past, present or future (or the same time if you see life in that reference). So it goes...
Vietnam!

Jimmy, I couldn't agree more.
I chose my username after a Vonnegut character.

So it goes.
Jimmy, when I heard that he died, I was surprised. He's one of those permanent fixtures you just take for granted as being there always, I guess. He's been called the Hemingway of this generation -- which I think is nonsense, since he's the Vonnegut, incomparable to anyone else, of the last three generations at least. If we have to compare him to anyone, I'd sooner say Twain. Even Vonnegut liked that idea.
'Cat's Cradle', 'Slaughterhouse Five' <-- especially this one, and 'The Sirens of Titan' are all favourites of mine, and always will be. I bought 'A Man Without A Country' for my boyfriend, and he said it was a good read. I'm going to borrow it this summer.
Kurt Vonnegut was cool, eccentric as anything, sarcastic, smart as a whip, critical of institutions while being unafraid to speak out at a time when speaking out wasn't popular... and, although most people don't always associate this with him, he was very kind. He had seven children, four of them adopted. And he had one of the most interesting lives I've heard tell of. Life was often hard on him, but I think he got through the best way he knew how, and often with humour.
Thanks, Kurt.

Kurt Vonnegut would have hung out in the Trout/Gerbs forum.

Hey Jimmy, maybe you should take the stick out of your rear end and have a little fun once in a while.

I suppose you have a valid point.
