Hi creative artist people!

I have been studying John 8:1-11 for 30 years, and have written many pamphlets and booklets on it, about its authenticity and its meaning etc.

In the Film medium, I have watched carefully how directors and filmmakers interpret and present the story.

I found the version in Jesus of Nazareth to be a rather poor version visually and storywise, not really engaging or motivating the viewer.

The King of Kings wasn't very much better, although both of these are early interpretations.

The Greatest Story Ever Told did a great job of dramatizing the story, and the actors were superb (they had the best Jesus overall too), but unfortunately, they altered the story too much to reflect the actual one recorded in John.

The Gospel Of John has so far done the absolute best and most faithful interpretation of the incident onscreen, and is a must-see. Both Jesus, the Woman, and the Pharisees/officers are fantastic actors and portray a dramatic and involving version of the story that makes you care about what happens.

Here are some stills from the movie, to give you an idea of how that filmmaker handled the story:

Anyway, (not to get sidetracked too much), I just wanted to talk a bit about what to me was a good representation of the story in the film-art, as a backgrounder and idea source.

I would like to see the story illustrated in book form something like in the style of a Mucha (colors, pastels, French Art-style) or even Lord of the Rings - like (but not too corny, more like Roger Dean's art).

Anyway, I would use the pictures to illustrate visually my commentary.

I am expecting the Lord to do the impossible here: provide a great artist (or series of artists) and I have no budget at all, since what I do is volunteer and self-funded. I know this does not make this sound very attractive to artists who would like to be paid and honoured for their talents, which I also approve of. But who knows? maybe a Christian publisher would pick the booklet up once it was illustrated.

Any artist who is interested in this project can post here and/or PM or email me. I would love to see samples of your work (you could post thumbs here if you like). Maybe we can even make it a kind of contest. If you are willing to give permission for the art's use, and don't mind sharing the glory with other artists, this might be a fun project for you.

I think you will have to both like the story, and also like my commentary/interpretation of it, in order to feel good about adding your art to the booklet, so have a read of the pamphlet text first, and try to imagine where it could be illustrated using your talents!

Also, as a guide, I would suggest imagining illustrating key moments in the story, following along with how my commentary has split up the verses somewhat.

Secondly, we don't need to limit the artwork to scenes from the story itself. As you can see when you look at the text, I discuss a whole lot of other incidents and stories in the Old Testament in the process of commenting, and any of these could also be illustrated with great effect for the enjoyment of the pamphlet.

Please have a read, and see if the booklet inspires you to do some artwork!

You might also look at the start-posts for a few threads of mine on www.christianforums.com to see how I have used artwork in the past for crazy effects, although the art is not mine:

Also, a nice cover for the booklet could be done, about half the size of an 8.5x11 in. piece of paper (folded pamphlet size).

I hope this inspires someone!!

Peace, and Godspeed,
