View Full Version : Poem for my parents on their Anniversary

A dreamy, darling butterfly-
delectably beheld-
sends shivers shorn off Looker's spine,
and rips the roughest pelt.

The flight, the dye (chromatic dye!)...
Such robust Remedy!
For vapid void (of hoi polloi!)
'Tis pukka sight to see.

But floating friends of octet fins
will glide in one accord.
Flutter up, flutter down in Wind,
In mirth, in sacred form.

Dazzling spies with drizzled grace,
the fliers chant with poise,
the timeless prose, surviving throes,
And revel in their choices.

Happy Anniversary, Butterflies.

What a good son you are! Did you write that, BHN?

Yes. I hope they like it.

I'm not smart enough to understand all of it, but I think it's cool. :thumb:

The first 2 verses (stanzaz?) were about how beautiful a single butterfly is. The 3rd is about how much better two butterflies are (octet fins = 8 wings; 4 wings per flutterby). The 4th is about the effect they have on "spies" or observers.

What's "Looker's spine"?

Bravo BHN..... and butterflies also symbolize the wholesomeness(is there such a word?) of creatures who had to undergo a metamorphose to be able to undertake their colorful flight. Sort of like marriage...... years of mutual changes and compromises so that two people can harmonize.

I need to have my daughter peak at your poem. She composes a lot from her computer while she attends FSU. If you wish I will PM you the addy of a site which is dedicated to free lance authors (both prose and poetry). I have read some wonderful compositions. I hope you will share your talent there.

It is also wonderful that you still have parents to wish a happy anniversary to.

Nothing gets past you, Rahab.

That's really nice, BHN! When's their anniversary? Have you given it to them? If so, what'd they think?

Oh, and out of curiosity, what'd you end up doing for your Mom for her bday?

That was awesome! (Although quite amiss, as long as one brings out the FUNK in perfeunctory. :p)

Ah, their anniversary was the day I posted it on here, which was also the day I composed it. LA is right that it was a bit routine, but candid nonetheless. I believe they very much enjoyed it- I wrote it on the inside of a nice card and my mom is a sucker for cards. From what I understand, they took out the dictionary and jumped right in.

I'm glad they liked it. LOL about the dictionary. That sounds very much like my experience on TWeb. (Maybe I shouldn't admit that?!?)
