"Sooner rather than later you've got to say 'Enough's enough - Kosovo is independent,'" Bush said, telling Albanians what they wanted to hear. He said independence was a certainty. From http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070611/D8PMDOQO0.html

Why do we support the independance of Kosovo but have issues with recognizing Taiwan and fought to keep the South in the US during the Civil War?

Kosovars have ethnic and religious differences that had the serbs ethnically cleansing them?

Because we can't recognise Taiwan without pissing off China. Same applies to the situation with Chechnya and Russia.

Anyway, you could also ask why does the US now condemn genocide when she was quite happy to commit it herself while claimining her manifest destiny.

Realism is king when it comes to politics, it almost almways trumps idealism.

Never forget guilt. There is no American school child who doesn't get "We slaughtered the Indians and stole their land" driven into rheir heads.
