Ramblings about God, theology, books, video games, and whatever else takes my fancy.

  1. The Social World of the Bible - Jerome Neyrey on Prayer

by , January 26th 2012 at 11:18 PM (The Red Book of the Westmarch)
I've been sick lately so I'm not up to the usual honor-shame series, but in the meantime, take a look at Jerome Neyrey's take on prayer from a social science perspective.

I find this to be a refreshing change from Skyrim's photo realism. However, the character creation screen was a bit lacking. I'm not sure if this is just a limitation of the demo or what, but when it comes to hairstyles ...

Last time we started investigating just how a person of a collectivist society accrues honor and shame and today we'll pick up where we left off and also examine the role woman played in this social game.

So far we've taken a quick look on the most basic questions of honor and shame - what is it and why is it important? This time we'll investigate how one could gain or lose honor in their collectivistic society.

A person's honor rating can be subdivided into two basic categories: ascribed and acquired honor. According to ...

  5. One thing video game devs should STOP doing!

by , January 22nd 2012 at 04:08 PM (The Red Book of the Westmarch)

Replaying DXHR brought to mind a pet peeve of mine that I've had for awhile. Let's say you're playing a video game - very meticulously and methodically clearing out rooms of enemies or avoiding them altogether. You pride yourself in your stealth abilities and tactical wit. The enemy never sees you coming and only knows that you've been there when he groggily wakes up five hours later with a tranquilizer dart lodged in his neck. How would you feel ...
