Thinking on the Way

My thoughts and opinions mainly on living the Christian life and church life in the United States.

  1. On Theology

I confess…I’m an intellectual. I like to discuss Christian theology. I appreciate that the Christianity we live today was shaped by first the writers of the New Testament and lots of faithful people after them. God used them to help explain what Jesus taught and what His example means.

But I don’t encounter God in theological discussion. I don’t feel His presence then. I suppose that’s to be expected. Talking about God is like talking about your love. You may feel something when discussing ...

  2. 1 Corinthians 13

by , February 18th 2013 at 08:28 PM (Thinking on the Way)
I was ready through some stuff I wrote and came across this. My hypothesis was Paul was using the word love as code for God. So based on the NIV, I rewrote 1 Corinthians 13 and replaced every occurance of love with God. I think I might be on to something.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have God, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move ...

  3. Going After Jesus

I tend to settle on a subject to study and meditate on for what usually ends up being a year or two. 4. About "Thinking on the Way"

It came to me that I should explain why "Thinking on the Way" is my blog title.

I am attrached to the truth that God reveals in the Scriptures. I recognize from Scripture how much I and all the world have fallen away from what God desires and we need a Savior to restore us to God. I know a lot of people talk about the love of God. For me, its the truth, the absolute truth of God.

The obvious Scripture for me then is John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, ...

  5. Out of the Bubble...

by , September 14th 2012 at 09:38 PM (Thinking on the Way)
This is sort of a continuation of the Sugar and Salt post...

I've read that one problem with the Internet is its now really easy to find sites and people that confirm your opinion. For example if you believe Jesus is a Space Alien, there are 18 million hits on Google for you're reading pleasure.

I just have this fear that I'm only reading what I want to read or confirms my opinions. Is this a problem? Do you do something to break out of the "bubble?"
